Publisher's summary

A dark, compelling new thriller from best-selling authors Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor

Young backpackers Gemma and Hayley arrive at a remote fruit farm in Australia’s Northern Territory, out of money and desperate for work.

The weeks go on, a blur of fruit picking, parties, campfires and wading beneath waterfalls in the nearby hot springs. Until the night the girls find themselves on a dark highway, bruised and bloodied.

Senior Detective Bronwen McKay and psychologist Megan Arlotti question the terrified girls. But Hayley and Gemma are telling two very different stories of what happened to them over the past three months.

Which story is the truth, and what are the girls covering up? A suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Editor's Pick

They don’t do stranger danger like they used to...
"It sounded like a pretty sweet deal when Gemma and Hayley stumbled upon a job offering free lodging, pool access, fresh air, and fruit-picking. What more could you ask for? However, the outcome isn’t what you would expect. After being found bruised and bloody on the road, detectives can clearly tell the girls have been through a very traumatic experience. Held captive by a now dead mad man, it seems like a pretty cut and dry case for the detectives on the case. But why are Gemma and Hayley’s stories so vastly different? The combined masterminds of writers Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor and the stunning narration by Aimee Horne take you down a very twisted road of truth and lies because the more you know, the more you questions you have, and the darker the answers are."

I thought it was too twisty

Pretty good story but it was just a bit too twisty for me. I only liked a couple of the characters, the psychologist and the female detective. I did not like either of the two girls Hayley and Gemma and did not really care who was telling the truth.
The story became just too twisted and scary after the first 13 chapters and I skipped to the last two chapters to find out how it ended. I found the ending to be confusing and I did not like it. It is fair to say I may have liked it better if I had not skipped from chapter 13, but I don't think so. The narrator was good. I will be returning this book.

Serial ______ in the Australian Outback!

Really gripping story from the start of the book. Once again in the Australian outback, trauma, kidnap, possible murder, serial killer? And a major twist in the end you never see coming.
What a fun book. Really enjoyed it.

One of the best

This was one of the best books I’ve listened to and I go through about 4 a month! It had me on the edge of my seat anxious to know what happened next! The narrator was not my favorite type but she wasn’t bad

Did not live up to potential

Started off well with potential of being a very good story but deteriorated as the story dragged on and became less believable with a mismatch of ideas. If it had been cut by around 40% the story would have been much tighter. The main “twist” became pretty obvious if not all the details. It was a reasonably enjoyable book but not worthy of the many five star reviews.

Too Slow

The basic story could be interesting- gripping even. Unfortunately the author moves the plot along too slowly with a lot of repetition.

Creepy

I listen to a lot of who-dun-its and psychological thrillers, and I rarely bother to write a review, but this one stands out. Creepy and twisted, right til the end. Even if you think you have it figured out, you won't have ALL of it figured out. Even the ending creeped me out.
The narration was exquisite - all those different accents, and the mesmerizing drawl of the villain. I picked this book up on a Daily Deal, I think. Sometimes you get a winner on those deals. This was one of them.

Weird book

Creative and great narrator. It’s an unsettling story, mystery and I’m not sure just way over the top in my opinion even though it is intriguing. It’s also just plain creepy.

I would recommend it. Definitely wouldn’t read or listen to it again.

Lots of Twists and very twisted

A little confusing at first but it all comes together. At least the author doesnt bore you with the idea that Mr Dreamy isnt really a dream come true in the end. Its the "how and why" that keep you listening. Definitely, had me listening nonstop. Narration was good and characters were clearly distinct for the most part.

Mind blowing.

This is such a great psychological crime thriller .
you get so invested in the story that you don't realize how quickly it goes by. I could not stop listening to it. I'm buying the book so I have a physical copy. I absolutely recommend it.
