I first read this book in 1979 and fell in love with Susan Howach. was thrilled to find this on audible and this time 'listen' to the story which was perfectly narrated. I connected with all the characters again as I did over 40 years ago.
I have since learnt that the story parralells Anthony and Cleopatra's story.

this audio book changed my life- sounds dramatic- but true. BE DO HAVE is the key - I learnt I could just BE HAPPY without waiting for anything or anyone to 'make me happy'. If the authors use of God makes you uncomfortable..... just change to whatever works for you (I use universe) and embrace the message!

Story
Hugh van Cuylenburg was a primary school teacher volunteering in northern India when he had a life-changing realisation: despite the underprivileged community the children were from, they were remarkably positive. By contrast, back in Australia Hugh knew that all too many children struggled with depression, social anxieties and mental illness. His own little sister had been ravaged by anorexia nervosa. How was it that young people he knew at home, who had food, shelter, friends and a loving family, struggled with their mental health, while these kids seemed so contented and resilient?

I was enthralled with Hugh's book from the moment I started listening. While I have practiced gratitude for many years, there was just something about his stories that made me realise there is SO MUCH MORE I can be grateful for every day. The GEM practice (gratitude, empathy and mindfulness) is a very simple one to put into place.

Was very disappointed that this book had TWO full chapters of 'reading' recipes. As in other books, i had expected a PDF of content like that.
I did get a good overall information on the 5:2 diet, but the lack of support material for the audio book was disappointing
