The last half is better than the first
Reviewed: 04-14-25
The book could have started in the middle and it would still make sense with an added chapter of all the key points. With that being said, it is wonderfully written and the villain in the end was certainly a surprise. I enjoyed the narrators, though I wish the FVA was a little less American due to the unique setting. I love the body positivity, which is a rare thing in literature

The male narrator
Reviewed: 03-04-25
I was hoping the male narrator would only have a chapter or two, but omg the male VA is horrendous. Exaggerates every other word and pauses too much at weird times. The book itself is great. Love the plot and the characters. Believable fantasy and I LOVE the FMC

A wonderful game of courts. Definitely some things I didn’t see coming. Original idea, realistic villains and characters. The fva is okay, the mva is not good but only one chapter. I love the relatable MC. Familial abuse/ptsd portrayed accurately

Story
They say eyes are the windows to the soul—but when he looks at me through hues of slate-green and flaring blue embers, I’m terrified of what’s watching me from behind his clashing gaze, something primal and feverish that threatens to melt me like fire in ice. I fear falling into Kallum Locke’s pitch-black soul. But after I’m called to a crime scene to investigate the most gruesome act of violence to descend on the legendary town of Hollow’s Row, I have no choice but to turn to Kallum, to the man I had locked away in an asylum for the criminally insane.

If you like Philosophy and true crime/serial killers you will LOVE this. Amazing cast, both really brought me into the story. Good story, a little hard to follow bc so much internal monologue and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the ending.

Yeah, I’m the one they talk about. The headmaster’s prized possession, locked away in the bell tower of Notredame Parochial College. To most of the students, I was just a myth. An urban legend. The girl who rings the bells up in the tower, the one who talks to gargoyles.

The actual smut is really good, and I love the male characters, and especially the VA’s but the plot was not it with this one. Lost my attention half way through and I didn’t care enough to finish it. I did not like the main female character.

Story
I've lived in the mud quarter my entire life, watching as the fireguards came every five years to select the prettiest girls to go to the Seat to start new lives. They get it all: husbands, houses without a speck of dirt, and enough food that hunger wasn't a constant pain in your belly. This year, it's my turn. The dragon that forces our kingdom to cower under our magnificent dome and hide behind stone walls hasn't shown any signs of leaving.

It’s rushed, not a lot of adjectives so the world building is mostly in your head. The brothers are hard for me to tell apart but it’s spicy and the plot is very intriguing. Will be reading book 2
