Story
You’ve read the headlines, but you don’t know Jamie Lynn Spears. The world first met Jamie Lynn as a child star, when it was her job to perform, both on set and for the press. She spent years escaping into different characters—on All That, Zoey 101, and even in the role as Britney’s kid sister. But as she grew up, faced a teen pregnancy, raised her daughter on her own, pursued a career, and learned to stand on her own two feet, the real Jamie Lynn started to take center stage - a raw, blemished, and imperfect woman, standing in her own power.

I didn’t want to buy this book and give a cent of my money to the Spears family, but curiosity killed the cat. I finally gave in and decided to hear her side. And I have a feeling many other felt the same and it’s the ONLY reason this is a NYT best seller. Quantity, not quality- that’s for sure.
The only part I enjoyed was when she was talking about her daughter, mainly during her ATV accident. I listened to this book on Audible and I could hear the hurt in Jamie Lynn’s voice. She had a hard time getting through the story of Maddie’s accident. But I felt the stories of her daughter were the only truthful parts of the book.
The entire story has a winey, ‘woe is me’ tone. I believe the book is mostly filled with lies, all of which were called out by multiple parties. There was also a lot of complex words that clearly were not from the mouth of Jamie Lynn. It sounded absolutely foreign and uncomfortable to hear her say words that were fabricated for her story.
This book was nothing but defensive. “I’m a good mom” “I’m a good friend” “I’m a good sister.” The last chapter entitled “My Testimony” should have been titled “Everything But What Jamie Lynn Should Have Said To Her Sister.” I found myself gritting my teeth hearing how she talked about her sisters experiences.
Quite frankly, this book doesn’t need to exist.
Oh and by the way, #FreeBritney forever!

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

BOOK REVIEW!
Book 📕: The Nightingale | Kristin Hannah
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Why: I wanted to love this book as much as the people who raved over it. And if it weren’t so drawn out, I probably would have. I listened to this on Audible, an 18 hour book, and I found myself drowning it out most of the first half. If I didn’t have the ability to weave in and out of the story by listening, I would have DNF’d it. Right at about the halfway point (9 hours in 😅) the story picks up with the Nazi’s infiltrating France and deporting Jewish citizens. Finally, by the last 1/4, this book redeemed itself and earned 3 stars instead of the 1 or 2 I originally had planned for it. Overall, a worthy read, I’d just recommend listening instead! Can’t wait for the movie to come out, I think it’ll be a great film!

Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes. What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Underwhelming YA Book
Reviewed: 12-04-20
Don’t get me wrong, this is a solid book, but painfully underwhelming. It could be so much more- I WISH it was so much more. TG: rape & sexual assault. These situations are real and raw, but nowhere near as detailed as some people claim. Very manageable.
Wouldn’t recommend unless you are a teen or young adult, or looking to learn or relate to the topic.

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Wow!!!! I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. If you have any interest at all in Greek mythology, read this. This story does a fabulous job of telling the stories of Achilles life through the eyes of Patroclus. The accounts of the war, the history of the legends and myths and prophecies.... WOW! Easy to understand, but lacks no historical or literary value. Cannot recommend enough!

I don’t know why some people say this book is too gruesome. Yeah, it was disturbing, but nothing too graphic. Overall I think it did a good job of telling the sisters story.

The only thing that made me not rate this book higher was the constant referring to “the youth.” Everything was Starbucks this and Stranger Things that. If the author would have left out these details in attempts to be relatable, the book would have been a 4 or 5 star rating from me. Once I was able to get past the “hip” talk, the book was a very interesting concept. A true psychological thriller. The narrator wasn’t the best, but certainly not the worst listen either. I’d recommend this book— just try to listen past the over detailing of things that needed no further explanation. A lot of “iPhone” and “MacBook” and “Starbucks” talk. Unnecessary, but the overall story line is wonderful.

I'm sorry- imaginary friend or "God Hates Us All"
Reviewed: 11-19-19
First and foremost, this narration is the best I've heard in a very long time. Kudos to Lakin.
This book starts off and grabs you right away. For the first few hours I was totally invested. Then it got weird, to say the least. This story isn't about an imaginary friend, but an imaginary world that is threatening to shatter the glass between the imaginary and the real side. Decent concept, and this might even be a good book if it wasn't so damn drawn out. I mean seriously. Each time I think I'm getting close to the end, I look and I still have 12 hours left. It's very redundant and truthfully getting boring. I would strongly recommend against getting this book if you are religious. I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore Christian, but even some of this stuff got under my skin. Kids become "god." Teenagers being the next Virgin Mary. God texting people calling them sluts. It's weird. It's insulting. Clowns blowing their brains out in front of kids. I mean come on. And mind you- this story is based around a 7 year old. I mean this is really a stretch. Half the time I thought I was reading about full grown adults instead of second graders. Honestly it's just a really really weird book. Like, REALLY weird. I still have 8 hours left and in all reality this book should have ended 8 hours ago. I'm over it. Don't waste your time.
