★★★★★ "An interesting take on humanities future!" - Reader Review ___ A fresh take on science fiction and a glimpse at humanity through the eyes of an alien who doesn't know what 'family' is, until he finds one! "Humans are the only known intelligent species to actively create 'Found Families' in the form of parents, children, siblings, and more. If a human starts spending more time with you and initiating physical contact, they have probably adopted you." These were the words that caught my ears when attending the most prestigious university in my quadrant as a minor in alien ...

I decided to try this as it was a 'suggested' on another series I was listening too and I am on the hunt for new series and authors. The whole series was in plus catalog so gave it a try. I am in my 50s and I found myself drawn into the story, was pleasantly surprised. I was so drawn in I marathon the entire series. I hope one of the streaming services like Netflix picks this up and develops it into an animated series.

The first few chapters of this is the last few chapters of Power Challenges Book 4 of the Power Series, then it continues the story further. It has a tie in to New Earth in the Grand Tour series also.

Petaybee was growing up. Day by day the sentient planet was learning to recognize and understand the meaning of outside stimuli, to respond to those stimuli, to communicate its own needs and desires...even to use human speech. But few outsiders truly cared for the feelings and intelligence of what they perceived to be a giant hunk of rock or a mere oddity to be gawked at. Some came to worship the newly awakened soul.

As always the story is excellent, but .....
Reviewed: 12-03-15
What made the experience of listening to The Tower and the Hive the most enjoyable?
As with most everything Anne McCaffrey the story is 5 star .. the biggest problem with this audiobook is the performance. It is obvious the narrator is unfamiliar with the characters and they the sound effects added to the recording are terrible. I wish they would re-record this book using the same narrator and style they used in the other books in the series.
What other book might you compare The Tower and the Hive to and why?
The Pegasus Trilogy, same author they are the prequels to the Tower series.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
did not like the performance at all, narrator did not know the characters and the sound effects were terrible
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
only that I did not like the recording and narrator but I bought it anyway because its anne mccaffrey and is the last in the series
