Story
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

Clever story with too much bad language.
Reviewed: 01-22-23
The story had a very clever twist I had not anticipated. However, I almost turned it off several times because the language was so bad in parts.

In the small Florida town of Seabrook, a young lawyer named Keith Russo was shot dead at his desk as he worked late one night. The killer left no clues. There were no witnesses, no one with a motive. But the police soon came to suspect Quincy Miller, a young Black man who was once a client of Russo’s.

Grisham at his best

I loved this book. It is a fascinating story about a group of lawyers that work to free wrongly convicted prisoners. The narration is excellent and it is the best book by John Grisham in recent years. I has great character development and multiple plot lines. Definitely worth a listen.

Story
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

My least favorite of his books
Reviewed: 08-26-19
This is not typical Grisham. Half the book is about WW II in the Philippines which is the best part but could have been left out without changing the book. The first party is very repetitious. The end is surprising but very unsatisfying. Not worth the 13+ hours it took to wade through. Skip this and listen any of his other books.
The narration was great though.

Peter Pan Prequel
Reviewed: 03-23-18
This is a fabulous story for young readers. I have been reading it to second graders for 3 years and they all love it. It is too difficult for most second grades to read themselves, but it is a great book for them to learn the fun of reading without pictures. My grandkids listened to the audiobook while “reading” the book at the same time and loved it.
The book is funny and exciting. It tells the story of how Peter Pan got his flying powers and why he doesn’t age, along with many more of the questions your kids may have had from the movie.
The reader of this audiobook does a great job of voicing all of the characters giving them depth and personality through his voicing.
One of my favorite books ever. I have read/ listened to it 7 times - so far!

Twelve-year-old Michael Arroyo lives in the shadows of Yankee Stadium, home of his heroes, but a place that might as well be on a different continent since he can't afford to see the inside. He also lives in the shadows of his Bronx neighborhood, hiding from the bill collectors and the officials who would separate him from his 17-year-old brother if they knew the two boys were living on their own. Baseball is Michael's only salvation.

Story
Howard Carter has just made one of the great discoveries of all time, the unveiling of Tutankhamun's tomb. At the same time, Egyptologist Ralph Trilipush finds himself in a slightly less spectacular position. He has staked everything on a scrap of hieroglyphic pornography. Halfway around the world, an Australian detective sets off on a globetrotting quest to find a murderer. Or two. Or three. These events, seemingly unrelated, are about to collide in a spectacular yet utterly unpredictable fashion.

Clever concept but too long
Reviewed: 10-28-04
This is an interesting concept book but is much too long because you figure out what is happening very early in the book (at least I did). I thought this would be in thr vein of the Amelia Peabody books, but the only similarity was the era it was written in. If this had been half as long, I probably would have giveng it a 4. It was just too much of a struggle to get to the end of the book.
