Story
When I left my old life behind, I thought I’d seen the worst of it. Turns out, I was wrong. Six months after discovering I’m a Warlock, surviving my first semester at a magic college filled with witches, and forming a coven with my roommate, things are getting complicated. Just as I’m starting to make sense of Willowmere and the Witch Families that want me bound to them—or dead—Morgan, the closest thing I had to family in foster care, shows up. Only she’s got magic of her own.

Good continuation to the Series
Reviewed: 03-28-25
I enjoyed this book as much as the first. It's a good continuation to the series. Not overly heavy on the sex or constant action which is a problem that most of the authors of this genre fall into.
My only complaint is that the author leans too heavily into the "dumb MC" trope. Situations that are glaringly obvious have the MC asking stupid questions or arriving at stupid conclusions.
Other than that I recommend this book.

Too many unresolved threads
Reviewed: 12-30-24
The MC is going to have a nervous breakdown. Between the Pillar challenge, the war, the undead empire issues, the baldy hit squad that's coming and at least 5 other unresolved threads this series has just become a hot mess. The author doesn't seem to know how to resolve and issue and still progress the story. He just piles more and more on the MC adding enemies and problems from every direction.
The story has become very disjointed and jerky. The MC will be on a certain level for 100 chapters and then over the next 3 chapters will go up 25 to 30 levels. The fights and especially the cultivation sessions have reached a ridiculous level of detailing. There are multiple parts where you could skip 20 or more pages and not miss a thing.
Having to wait 6 months for this release was very disappointing and I've just discovered that the next book won't be out for 8 months.
Increased delay between books that have become less and less interesting is not a good sign for this series.

Story
The war against the Kan'Tanu is drawing closer, and Zac can't wait any longer. Only by stepping into D-grade does he have a chance to keep Earth safe. Fusing life and death is thought impossible, but Zac has no choice but to achieve a miracle. And if there's one place where he might succeed, it's the Perennial Vastness. The mysterious realm holds unique opportunities and resources. A final opportunity to power up. However, the fifth pillar of the System is emerging and an Eternal Heritage is up for grabs. The ancient factions are willing to go to any length to claim the prize.

Great Addition....Keep them coming
Reviewed: 03-12-24
I had hoped that the acceleration of the story would continue in this book but it did seem to slow down again. That is my only caveat. Especially since the author is continuing their breakneck pace of 3 or 4 massive books per year. The mentioning of the plots, plans and machinations of side characters and their factions is terrific and I wish that the author would expand on those a bit more rather than spend so much time on fighting and cultivation explanations. They have the habit of introducing a side character (the Zetheya Matriach) and then dropping them from the story without explanation.
That said, the sheer scope of the story, the imaginative characters and the reality building that goes into these books is truely impressive. These books are well worth the price and I eagerly await the next addition.

Story
Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. In just over half a year he's gone from the weakest cadet at school to one of the strongest in his class, and there's no one left who would argue that his Device, Shido, isn't the most terrifying CAD they've ever laid eyes on. Still, Rei knows that his climb has barely begun, like he knows that the true fight is only just starting. After all… The Sectionals tournament has arrived. Rei, along with Aria, Viv, Catcher, and a couple unexpected squadmates, are about to face the first real battle of their careers.

Good But a Little Slow
Reviewed: 11-03-23
Overall it was a decent 2nd book to the series but I expected the story to progress further than it did. The development of the characters was very good and I enjoyed the addition of several new people. What I didn't care for was the repetitive, hand-wringing internal monologue about revealing Rei's secret. That got old fast and the author seemed to use it as filler. Conversations where the point was made after a few paragraphs went on for pages rehashing the same statements.
A few reveals nicely expanded the scope of the story and some intentionally incomplete conversations between new characters have me speculating as to whose side they might be on and looking forward to the next book. Also, I think that Grant's backstory was excellently written.
Luke Daniels is one of my favorite voice actors. I think he is very talented and I've never bailed on an audiobook because I wasn't enjoying his performance. That being said he should be ashamed of this book. He changed accents on at least two characters - one of them was a main character. Aria is French and not only had a French accent in book one but also at the beginning of this book. Unbelievably, about halfway through the book she changes to Irish along with her brother. It had a very big WTF factor and pulled me right out of the story and slammed me back into my chair. This was unprofessional in the extreme and he should offer to redo the book for O'Connor.
My largest complaint, apart from the story progression being too slow, was the WOKE pandering. That became tiresome and I could have done without it. If the author had cut that down a little I would have given the story 4 stars.

I waited 74 months for this drivel???
Reviewed: 07-15-20
First let me say that James Marsters gave another great performance. However, even his talent couldn't save this blathering drivel. 90% of this book was Harry's meandering philosophical musings about every subject you could possibly imagine. I'm actually surprised he didn't give us several pages about how your shoes take you on your life journey etc....it was that bad. Then we were treated to yet another heavy dose of Dresden self flagellation. He takes personal responsibility for every bad thing that happens to everyone around him. But, to be honest, the author has been playing this same tune for the last 15 books. Why would he try anything new now.
After a 6 year hiatus I really expected a better effort. This was extremely disappointing.
