I'm not a fan of the narrator but I love the stories. I'm hoping the other books have a different narrator otherwise, I'll stick to reading them instead of listening.

Story
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

Kind of drags...
Reviewed: 03-11-19
So in my quest to read great American literature I thought I'd give this a listen. The story is just alright; I find it slow and wandering - which I suppose is the point but not very entertaining. This is the second book I have listened to narrated by Maggie Gyllenhaal and I'm not a fan. Something about her tone and cadence makes even the most exciting narrative seem slow and cumbersome.

Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

Great story, but...

The narration was very distracting at times. Also, I didn't care for the intermittent background music that came through during parts of the story. It was distracting. The story is great and I enjoy David Baldacci and Decker really grew on me by the end of the story. I found him to be a bit off-putting at the beginning of the story, despite his personal tragedy. I'm picking up the next book to listen to. If I have the same problem with this narration, I will follow the rest of the books in print and save my credits for something else.

My own fault...
Reviewed: 11-03-18
I didn't read closely that these are dramatic readings...meaning they are like plays as opposed to the complete novels. Ok for what it is. I experience similar technical issues to others. Overall I am disappointed because I wanted the complete novels, not the dramatic versions.

Boring and annoying...
Reviewed: 07-24-18
I disliked this story and all of the characters. I found them to be annoying and was rooting for their early demise. Anna is whiny, ungrateful, and behaves like a spoiled child. I found her the most obnoxious of all of them. Kitty and Levin were the only tolerable characters in the story. I kept hoping the story would get better but it never did, sadly was a huge let down and waste of time. Maggie was a great narrator but didn't have much to work with.

Such a fun twist and cute story. I hope Jane decides on one of her beaus and doesn't drag it out indefinitely like the Stephanie Plum books. That would ruin it for me
