Mansfield Park: on a quest to find a position in society, Fanny Price goes to live with her rich aunt and uncle.

Northanger Abbey: young, naïve Catherine Morland receives an invitation to stay at the isolated Gothic mansion Northanger Abbey.

Sense and Sensibility: forced to leave their family home after their father's death, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood try to forge a new life at Barton Cottage.

Pride and Prejudice: Mrs Bennet is determined to get her five daughters married well, so when the wealthy Mr Bingley and his friend, Mr Darcy, move into the neighbourhood, her hopes are raised....

Emma: Emma Woodhouse declares she will never marry, but she is determined to find a match for her friend, Harriet.

Persuasion: eight years ago, Anne Elliot rejected a marriage proposal from a handsome but poor naval officer. Now her former love has returned....

Made Me Greedy for Longer Versions

Wonderfully performed collection of substantially abridged dramatizations of Austen's major works. Thoroughly enjoyed every one.. 'Emma' and 'Persuasion' sometimes bogged down in heavily expository dialogue, or monologue, in an attempt to limit narration, but on the whole were very good. (Austen's narrative commentary on the foibles of society and her characters is the best part of her books, but must make dramatization very difficult!) As an Austen enthusiast, I'd love a reading by these casts of the full works, but this is well done.

not for True Jane Austen fans

These stories are very abridged and some of the parts of the story that are important are missing. I know the younger daughter in Sense and Sensibility is not important to the plot but she does exist. I don't believe that the Bennet sisters really liked soldiers in blue coats. The best story in this grouping was Persuasion because it did stick pretty close to the storyline.
that said the voices are great and it's easy to tell the characters apart. they really do get the feeling of the characters down right. I may listen to this again in a time of desperation when I need a very quick Jane fix.

Quite entertaining!

A delightful arrangement from the BBC of Ms. Austen's wonderful collecrion. The actors & the sound effects were spot on, and my only angst was that they were condensed versions of the beloved novels & the music was a bit trite. Nonetheless, cheers to Audible & the BBC for this presentation.

loved it!

I really enjoyed this as a radio play. I have struggled to read Jane's books for years, this helped me to get the stories. I loved the music and reading together -- great balance.

JANE AUSTEN LIVES!

Yes, all the good reasons others have stated are true! It is also true having watched all of these wonderful dramas on BBC/MASTERPIECE, that following these Radio Dramas character voices was much easier.
