The characters were actually really cute. Griffin is the sweetest rockstar I’ve ever read about, and Luca’s character was kind and relatable. This story just didn’t hold my interest 🥱. It was too sweet 🍭 for me 🤷🏻‍♀️, but I can see this book working well for people who enjoy sweeter romances.

Just when I think I've read my favorite Suanne Laqueur novel, she gives me THIS.

I have so many thoughts and emotions about this book--all of them are positive, glowing, and full of praise. A Charm of Finches may be my favorite MM relationship and romance story to date. The pacing is intentionally slow, ensuring the impact of the character's journeys to hit me right in the feels. There is so much more than romance in this story though—it's a book about trauma (seriously, the triggers are very heavy in this one), being okay with who you are, s****l exploration, and learning to take things slowly to understand the choices you're making and the consent you're giving really sink in.

There is a main character in the story that isn't part of Stef and Jav's romance (his story is told in parallel to theirs), but fate would have his life intersect with Jav and Stef at just the right time. Geno becomes a therapy client of Stef's, and his story (from his trauma, to trying to deal with things on his own, to his therapy) deeply moved me.

A Charm of Finches isn't just about Jav's third chance at love (even though it was the reason I was excited to pick it up)—it transcends that, and left me with a lot to think about. I recommend this story to anyone willing to read a profound story about love, life and healing.

“You’re the last chapter,” Jav said. “I went from the prologue to you. I skipped everything in the middle. I got sensational instead of suck. I got a best friend instead of the bullshi!t. Now I’m in love with you and it’s everything I wanted, it’s everything I’m terrified of losing, I’m scared to death and I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. This is not what I wrote.”

P.S. The audiobook is narrated in solo narration by Darren Eliker, and I highly recommend it. His performance was perfect.

If you’re looking for a predictable student-teacher romance that follows conventional forbidden romance storytelling, you won’t find that here. What you will find is creative writing through past and present plot-lines told in parallel, morally ambiguous characters with depth, and an HEA that some might find unsatisfying. Me? I didn’t find anything that was unsatisfying about it at all. The way the story was told kept me engaged from the beginning of the book through the very end of it. I loved this story—it has become one of my favorite forbidden romances. I’m thrilled that I decided to pick it up.

“It wasn’t good, and it wasn’t evil—it was just love.”

P.S. The audiobook was fantastic. It’s perfectly narrated in dual style by Chelsea Hatfield and J.F. Harding.

I loved this story and all the twists and turns it took me on. The reason I am rating this book 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because of some of the decisions that Quinn made toward the end of the book. Girl, I know you are smarter than that! You were warned! And then you got defensive about it. You may know what I'm referring to if you've read the book. I loved the result of her actions, and I understand why it was added to the story and the point it was trying to get across to the reader, but her thought process wasn't like the Quinn I knew from the first part of the story. However, that was my only gripe. This book was fantastic and I truly loved it.

Also, the audio performances were phenomenal. It's narrated in dual style by Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor, and they knocked it out of the park, proving once again why they are powerhouse narrators in the romance community.

This is a decent book with good messages, but it was occasionally a drag to get through. The flow felt choppy. The narration was fine. I didn’t have any issues with it.

Parallel has been on my TBR for ages, and I am kicking myself for not picking it up sooner! I loved this story and the characters! I have soooo many questions as I head right into book 2. I have a feeling that a few of my theories were right, but also… €}€~+{+]€!!,,€,^~*{&&&!!! Gah. So many questions, too!

This was time travel romance done remarkably well. This book ends on a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! If you pick this up, cancel your weekend plans because you won’t want to put this down!

P.S. The audiobook for this is stellar. It’s narrated in dual style by Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke. Need I say more? 👏🏻

I really enjoyed this story—especially the end. It was action packed! The narration was done well too. I sometimes have a hard time with dual narration in a reverse harem story, and did occasionally struggle to keep the male characters straight, but other than that, it worked well for me.

I don’t really know how a plot this intricate bored me, but it did. I don’t know, this was just “meh” for me. I think it might be the academic setting for adults—that just felt odd. The characters were okay but also forgettable. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This book hit my mood just right, and I didn’t want to stop listening to it. Charlotte was a sunshine heroine, and she wore her heart on her sleeve. She was perfect for Reid—our guarded hero, afraid to love again. For a contemporary romance (which I don’t tend to gravitate toward), this hit all the right notes for me, and I really enjoyed it. “S€x on wheels!” 🛞😂
