what I thought

I fell in love with this series when I first read it. To have it on audible is a serious pleasure. The female narrator did a great job she give Liz the proper snotty attitude and Georgia that go to attitude. great job..

Survival of the fittest.

Overall, this novel is thoroughly enjoyable for its humour, fun characters, imagination and romance. But that happens AFTER the gruesome beginning and before the heroine meets the good aliens (of which the hero is one).

Several women, all healthy 22 year olds, are stolen from earth by a nasty set of aliens (not associated with the hero and his clan). These aliens control the women in various ways including with sexual violence (rape trigger); and once landed on the Ice Planet, not all women survive. This might be confronting for some readers. However, once the remaining women organise themselves and start on their Ice Planet adventures, the comedy, survival and romance are enjoyable.

Despite the sexy impression given by the cover, this story is a slow-burn and a lovely romance before the sex. And it’s well done with likeable characters, including the barbarians, and good world-building. Our heroine, Georgie, is the bada$$ brave one who scouts the area for the group. I really liked her ethics, no-nonsense outlook, the respect she demonstrated for her barbarian mate (hero), and the respect she demanded for herself. The hero in turn was loving, protective and accepting of difference. Great leaders, the pair of them.

Narrator Mason Lloyd was easy to enjoy from the beginning. However, narrator Hollie Jackson doesn’t sound 22 to me and it took me two thirds of the book to get used to her - by the end I loved her because the narration was so good. Now that I’ve listened to subsequent books in this series, I realise the voice used for Georgie is just one of many voices in Ms. Jackson’s repertoire. She sounds different for each novel's heroine. What a talent.

I recommend this book for a pleasant, light (with the exception of the brutal beginning), romantic and sexy listening experience.

Such an Awesome Series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Ice Planet Barbarians to be better than the print version?

I don't think an audio can be better than a book, its essentially the same words. Just spoken out loud instead of written down.

What did you like best about this story?

I love how Ruby Dixon makes her characters so funny.

What does Hollie Jackson and Mason Lloyd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The twange of Georgie's Southern accent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh during certain parts of the book.

Any additional comments?

I love this series. I wait in baited breath for each new story by this author to come out. I hope Ruby Dixon decides to make the rest of the series audiobooks as well.

Warning: Poss mild tho obvious spoilers below...

I love tales like this when I am in the mood for light entertainment. I deeply admire men of any time period when they are confident enough of their masculinity to be vulnerable and loving to their partner. That is real strength to me when found in any gender. There is none of the knuckle-dragging males choking everyone with their testosterone stench trying so hard to be "alpha". This story is about survival in a pretend world not posturing.

The explicit steamy sex scenes (thank you for not slamming the figurative bedroom door in our face) are done with caring and later love. I would classify this publication as a erotic romance.

Although there is some hunting for food, it is done "off screen". In fact, there is no gratuitous violence at all.

There is no BDSM if that is what you like and is so prevalent since FSOG. Personally, I am glad that there is no BDSM without being "judgy" as that is not to my taste and this is my review. As far as what others like, that is their business as long as it is of legal age and consensual.

The narrator does a great job in differentiation of voices regardless of gender, emoting without being overly dramatic and good inflection.

In conclusion, I enthusiastically plan to add this author to my TBR list. KUDOS for an enjoyable read!

fifth time's the charm

I download this sample from Kindle then I downloaded the sample from audible then I saw an expert on on some website.the other reviews were great I just could not get myself to get into the series I just didn't want to read it. I finally ended up reading the spin-off series the first book in it. and surprisingly enough I really like that book I think what was turning me off was the opening scene is like a rape scene and you're totally not prepared for it and I hated it I didn't like it I just I was I just put the book down and they want to read it. however I decided to give you yet another try which roar I guess by then it's like the 5th time and I just started from chapter 2 it got much better from there I'm glad I stuck with it cuz this series was really fun once you get past the not prepared for opening scene.

great story

I am still listening to it I really enjoy it but I cannot shake the fact that the female narrator sounds like Applejack reading erotica.
I'm not entirely opposed to it but it was a bit off-putting
