Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

In the beginning, the main character comes off as a weak pushover but the plot made me want to continue to listen. I am glad I did! She grew into herself and the plot grew in twists and turns. I never expected the book to end how it did. K.L. Slater got me again!

Story
I just met my new son-in-law . . . And he’s my ex-husband. They’re here. I watch them arrive from the kitchen window. My pregnant daughter and her new husband. They’ve barely known each other six months. I greet him with a tight smile that he recognizes as fake. Luke is no good for my beautiful, fragile Cerys. He’ll break her heart. I know that because he broke mine — when he was married to me. I don’t know what he’s after. But I’m going to make it my business to find out.

Great character development and plot twists. I enjoyed contemplating each character that could have been behind it all. The end left me with a few questions but in a fun,not frustrating, way.

The story drew me in and then it just ended. It felt like the author didn’t know what direction to take or how to tie up the story so they just stopped writing.

The narrators voice is rich and varied for each character. Another win for “Jackman” and “Marie”! Looking forward to their next case.

From the upper crust herself, Helen's unconventional--if happy--marriage has made the girls' social position precarious. As daughters Jemima and Alice navigate the rise and fall of their family--each is forced to re-examine who she is, and even who she is meant to love.
