About this listen

A gripping crime thriller full of stunning twists and turns.

When DI Rowan Jackman and DS Evans are told that the IT boss has disappeared, they soon suspect foul play. Orla Cracken, known as Orac, is no ordinary techie; she was once a field agent traveling abroad undercover, working for the government.

Meanwhile DC Robbie Melton discovers that two people, both urban explorers, have mysteriously disappeared whilst out exploring abandoned buildings. One went missing at a disused airfield, but was it a military base, or was it civilian?

The gruesome discovery of their decaying bodies found hanging in ancient church ruins bursts the case wide open, and Jackman and Evans are under pressure to find the killer. With Orac safely back in the picture following a secret journey to Ireland to try and find her long-lost sister who went missing as a child, the hunt is now on to find the killer before he hangs his next victim.

It soon becomes clear that the killer is targeting urban explorers, but why is he determined to track down and torture these innocent people, and how is the case connected to Orac’s mysterious past, still shrouded in secrecy?

The latest gritty crime thriller by Joy Ellis, set in the Lincolnshire Fens, will keep you guessing – and your pulse racing – until the very end.

I have enjoyed this series and am am sad to have it come to an end. Richard Armitage was a wonderful narrator. His voice of Jackman was perfect . I enjoyed the characters and was happy there was no strife or drama among the team and the superintendent. I enjoyed Gary’s character so much.

GOODBYE

I read some of the negative reviews and wasn't sure if I should buy this book. But, I'm a fan of the series so I took a chance. Glad that I did, as this was another good one!

Didn't figure it out until the end. Again!

If anyone in the real world drank as much coffee as this crew, they would never get out of the bathroom.

These people cannot have a conversation with anyone without someone fetching, brewing, or bringing a cuppa. Period. It’s just not done.

Coffee or Tea?

As with the last book, I feel the ending was a bit anticlimactic, but still an excellent book. Richard Armitage was superb as usual and I feel his voice was back to normal (felt like he had a cold in the last book). Very enjoyable.

Another winner in the series

This book, like the rest of the Jackman/Evans series was very good. It wasn’t as…fast paced as some of the previous books, but it was a real pleasure getting to spend more time with Orac,

Good addition to the series

I've enjoyed the other 6 books very much. This one, though was draggy at times and I struggled to finish. I plugged on mostly due to the excellent narration. Hopefully #8 will be much better!

#7 disappointing

Love that this book focuses on the healing process and how different people handle grief! I love that Marie Evans has grown through the series and I like her spunk! Some of the books seem to have focused more on jackman but I loved how this one brought in some new characters from other books and made them relevant and how it appears to have given us more of a Marie and tu e tech gurus story!

I enjoyed every second of it, breathtaking, powerful, humorous and suspenseful. Joy Ellis is a brilliant writer !

Breathtaking

Joy Ellis has writes using lexicon that has integrity for the reader. The intensity of the content is extreme and her verbiage stimulates the mind’s-eye and emotions. As an intelligent reader, I find Ellis’s writing style refreshingly uncluttered with profanity. Her characters are thoroughly developed in detailed settings as the plot progresses to the climax.
