Deconstruction Part 1 - What We Were Handed

Sarah and Corinne look back on the stories from their early years in Christianity, before the Willow Creek and Exodus Road debacles. From purity rings to liturgy, youth groups to evangelical t-shirts, their sincerity and commitment were everything the Christian church hopes for in a believer.

    S1E5: Bonfires on the Bluff

Sarah and Corinne are grateful for the outpouring of feedback from you, letting them know how their experiences are feeding into your own as we all live into through the cycles of life and healing in whatever ways are available to us. In this episode, they discuss various resources that have given insight along the way, including IFS-based therapy (Internal Family Systems) and the books No Bad Parts : Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model by Richard C. Schwartz, When the Body Says No: Exporing the Stress-Disease Connection by Gabor Mate, M.D., and The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., as well as movies like Young Woman and the Sea and Inside-Out 2 and even Taylor Swift's music video for "Look What You Made Me Do." They also explore the concepts of societal barriers toward women's health and wholeness, the power inherent in getting healthy, and consider aloud whether sacrificing ourselves for everyone else truly is the best way to be a loving human.

    S1E4: The Damn Yellow Notebook

    Healing isn’t a grand finale — it’s a thousand tiny rebellions.

This week, Sarah and Corinne share the fires they lit along the way: voice memos and therapy sessions, a yellow notebook full of unfiltered truth, and the forgotten joy of playing again after years of survival mode.

This isn’t a blueprint. It’s a conversation around the fire — tender, true, sometimes messy, and full of warmth. If you’re somewhere in the middle of your own healing process, they’re right there with you.

Strike a match, settle in, and join them around the fire.

S1E2: That Time Our Publisher Broke Up With Us Via a YouTube Video (or, This is How It Works, Part I)

Fast forwarding from the stories shared in Episode 1, we now join Sarah and Corinne at the point in their journeys when they realized they were being inspired to write a book together. The act of doing so ushered in a sense of freedom and return to self unlike anything they'd known since the devastating experiences discussed in the previous episode. Leaders of corrupt systems aren't big fans of having their misdeeds memorialized for all time between the covers of a book, though. Here in Episode 2, Sarah and Corinne share the first part of their publishing experience and how it, too, called Ruin back into their journeys.

  • What the Hell Happened?

    S1E1: What The Hell Happened

You are about to hear the personal experiences of Sarah Carter and Corinne Shark, told by them, in their own words. Sarah's husband is the former lead teaching pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois. At the time of his service, more than 25k congregants gathered at Willow Creek each weekend to worship. In 2018, multiple women came forward to assert that the founding pastor of Willow Creek had been engaging in sexual misconduct for decades. The fallout of this hit many lives, including Sarah’s. Corinne's husband is a former lead investigator for The Exodus Road, a non-profit whose website states they are “on the front lines of the fight to end human trafficking.” When the Sharks encountered a culture of inappropriate sexual behavior by organization leadership in 2017, they attempted to address it internally. They paid dearly for that act.

This is Sarah's story. This is Corinne's story. Let the women speak.
