Good narration, slow story

Once I sped the narration up a bit, I thought the reading of the story was good. The story is okay. It's a bit dry, though. Nor is there much actual build to the romance. It was interesting enough to finish.

OK At Best!

If you like spice in your PNR then you won't find it here - this was PG-13 rated at best. I know this is the first book in the series, but the first book has the extra responsibility of setting the tone and giving incentive to want to continue on in the series. The characters other than Nadia and Ryan felt vague as did the world building. There are 4 houses but no explanation of what they are and how they interact with each other. As for Nadia and Ryan getting together it was basically an insta-love even though they've gone to school for years but didn't run in the same circles - it pretty much felt like: girl has secret crush on guy for years but one year she suddenly turns "pretty" and then guy suddenly notices her. As for the performance; it was performed in duel style but I am glad it was roughly equal time between the female chapters and the male chapters. Amelie Griffin was fine, but Erik Bloomquist sounded lethargic and uninterested - even when I sped him up it didn't matter which is too bad because I have appreciated some of his other works. Overall, I found it intetesting enough to finish but not to continue on.

Outstanding story and narration

I have been on a 'book slump' - we all get them - and nothing was grabbing my attention until this book. It is fun and fast moving from the first moment, clean and unique. Usually I pick up the whole plot super fast and with this story, I was kept guessing.

I took a breath when I heard both narrations. From the first moments I just got all the characters - they came to life in a way I rarely experience. The narration was so unusually good I did a bit of a Google search: Erik Bloomquist is trained classically at the London Dramatic Academy and holds a degree in theater and dance from Trinity College. He was nominated for a New England Emmy(R) Award for his performance as Allan Archer on the nationally syndicated series The Cobblestone Corridor. And his performance is superb. Amelie Griffin is also a professionally trained actor and outstanding. I hope to find many more books narrated buy them. I loved them both! Bravo!

The narration ruined it for me.

I tried adjusting the speed and couldn’t find a speed that made the listen tolerable. I’m going to put this book on my physical read list. I can’t say how the story is because I couldn’t get past the first few chapters.

Hair pulling!!!!

The male narrators monotone is horrible. I love this author so I’m going to have to read it. The narrator is ruining it. I speed up the reading to help with the dragging monotone and it did not help!!!
