Every four years, millions of Americans wonder why they choose their presidents through the Electoral College, an arcane institution that permits the loser of the popular vote to become president and narrows campaigns to swing states. I wanted to listen to this to get a basic understanding of what the electoral college is, why it exists, how it is exercised, its advantages and disadvantages, and anticipate the consequences of supplanting it with another system.

This explanation is extremely detailed and obviously intended for academics and serious students of electoral politics.
