Writing The Undead is a humbling experience. I am eternally grateful to the readers and listeners for the incredible support you always show.

Dan Morgan superbly narrated Parts 1 to 10, but unfortunately he was not able to continue. To my delight, the wonderfully talented Joe Jameson has now taken the series on. His range and skills are superb.

I am aware of the feedback about the voice of one of my characters, Dave. If this change has upset your listening experience then I can only apologise, but both Joe and I, and everyone at Audible, have listened to the points you made and take them very seriously. It is a wonderful thing to have such responsive fans, so willing to listen and work to make it better, plus the interactive nature of the series means you the listener can speak out and say what you like and don't like, otherwise how would we know?

We've got some cracking days ahead of us. Some real stonking rip-roaring storylines to come and both Joe and I can only hope you'll stay with us on this journey.

It is the morning after the storm. Thick fog covers everything. In the stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere, Howie and his group head out for supplies.

Skirmishes and tense fights take place and there are messages left in blood at key sites: 'he's coming'. As the day progresses, Howie becomes increasingly darker in thought, and more demanding of his team. By the end of the day they have discovered a munitions factory, but can Howie hold it together?

Bring back Dan Morgan

The story is spot on. I have been a fan of The Undead from the beginning. Dan Morgan narrated the first ten books, and brought the characters to life the way they were written. The new narrator ruins the story with his subpar narration. He also makes Dave sound like a simpleton which he is not. Don't mess with Dave. Redo book 11, 12, and 13 with Dan Morgan or I will be reading them instead of listening to them with audible, and this is the series that got me to sign up for audible.

Why change the narrator?

Don't think I'm going to make able to make it through this one. The narrator (Joe Jameson) is that awful. Dave sounds like he is mentally challenged, doped up, and suffering the after affects of a major concussion. A major, and my favorite, character is completely ruined. The new character Lily, from book 10, now sounds like she is afraid of her own shadow. In book 10 you couldn't stop her from rushing into a fight to help save her brother. Now she sounds like a person that will ask permission to go to the bathroom. All the characters sound like they lost major IQ points. Only on chapter 4, but all the characters are starting to sound so annoying I'm think in a couple more chapters I'll be rooting for the zombies.

Actually will probably pick-up hard copies of the books.

Update:
You do get use to the narrator. The other Narrator was much better. By the time you suffer through this book and go into the next (couldn't return it), there are enough new characters and less of the original characters it's no longer painful to listen to.

Good story, mediocre narrator

Would you consider the audio edition of The Undead to be better than the print version?

Yes, for the first 10 books in the series. Dan Morgan brought life to the characters. Disappointed at the switch in narrators for the last three books.

The characters simply were not as believable

Who was the most memorable character of The Undead and why?

Dave is an interesting mix of personality traits

What happened to Dave's voice ? (lol)

Would you listen to The Undead again? Why?

YES. It moves fast. R. R. Haywood doesn't waste your time with long, drawn out story lines.

What did you like best about this story?

It introduces several new characters, that I suspect in Part 12 will play big roles in the Undead universe. I brought 11, 12, and 13 as soon as they were released. So, I'm ready!

What about Joe Jameson’s performance did you like?

Generally the performance was as good as Dan Morgan, but the change in Dave's voice is still taking me a while to get used to. From audio book 1 to 10, Dave, though a man of few words, his voice was bright, and a bit "staccato", you know, short in response and crisp. This really added to the humorous exchanges between him and Howie. Joe Jameson changed the voice to a more dark, drawn out texture that IMO does not match the Dave character. But, like I said IMO. Anyway, this does not hurt the story itself. All in all, I really would give Joe J 4.5 stars, because in the last chapter, before hearing the names mentioned, it was quite easy to know Reggie, and Marcie was having the conversation. Great Job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"I am Mr. Howie, and I will END YOU!"

Any additional comments?

Beside the change in Dave's voice, the story line, and pace has maintained. I actually like this story more than TWD, especially it'e current season. STARTING PART 12, NOW!

What made the experience of listening to The Undead the most enjoyable?

The new narrator did not make the book enjoyable at all .

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Undead?

The series is great and I love everything about every book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The new narrator has different voices for the characters. It's like he forgets who is talking and uses the wrong voice for the wrong character. Clarence no longer has his deep booming voice. Other characters have deeper voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. The narration is like nails on a chalkboard after 10 books.

Any additional comments?

What a waste. Nothing worse than changing narration after so many books. What a disappointment.

not happy about the changes nor the 17.00 for the next book. it's getting expensive, but I'm hooked.

The new narrator

Love this series. probably one of the best I e read to date and I'm a HUGE undead fan. The new narrator, however, is nowhere near suited for this series. Dan Morgan was much, much better. The author should've paid what the narrator asked to please his readers. I think many other fans will agree with me on this point. Joe Jameson is an adequate narrator, but he sounds like he has sinus congestion, when he speaks for Howie and makes Dave sound like he's got a mental handicap. Autism does not equal slow speech. I know because I'm autistic and I'm very articulate. I hope this gets better or I'll have to quit the series.

new narrator changed the voices to much...Dave sounds like a slow retard now. it's also hard to tell the difference between the Lads as they mostly sound the same

The story was as exciting as the previous books. I've awaited the audio version for some time and was very disappointed by the change of narrators. I listened through but couldn't stand how he changed the voices and inflections of the characters. Dave most of all, was it because Dave is autistic that he chose that manner of speaking. The Virus spoke with clearer intelligence. I found it a bit offensive, not to mention what he made of the women's voices. I'll be reading the print version until the original narrator is back
