Acerca de esta escucha

From the author of the Gods Are Bastards series: The wickedly funny action-adventure portal fantasy continues—and things can only get worse . . .

Not long ago, Seiji was an ill-tempered, misanthropic man at war with the world. But then he was transported to a strange, savage realm for the purpose of literally making war on the world. In this reality, he's an extremely reluctant evil overlord with a temperamental goddess patron to please.

So in spite of his own natural unpleasantness, Seiji has tried to be the best bad guy he can be: providing for the downtrodden, offering healthcare to hookers, that sort of thing. Which has won him some staunch (but still diabolical) allies and a hell of a lot of enemies. Especially his main competitor in chaos and crime, Lady Gray, who really didn't appreciate being displaced by him.

But Seiji's coming to realize that despite his brash, bold exterior, his very human psyche is taking a serious beating from the extreme brutality he's committed and witnessed. In fact, he's starting to wonder if being such a big bad dude is all it's cracked up to be—or if there's any way out of all this . . .

The second volume of the hit fantasy adventure series—with more than five million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

It takes a Villain to Do The Right Things.

Second installment of the series in which a modern person is yanked from their life and Isekai'd into another world to be a pawn of Higher Powers - except rather than being the beloved Hero, our MC is involuntarily drafted to become the Villain of the story. Having absolutely zero interest in being a chew toy for the Goddesses game session, and throughly disgusted with the current social order in this new world, our MC decides to build an army from the dregs of society - the neglected, the down trodden, the abandoned - and tear down the corrupt Government, to build something that doesn't actually suck. Oh, and he intends on ruining the Goddesses Gaming session by flipping the board on them, All revolutions have to start somewhere, and this book follows our MC's building of his Dark Crusade.

Excellent story, characters, and narration - talented voice actors and just overall enjoyable tale.

Too much talking and too little action

Interesting characters and world building, I feel there's a good story creeping through the gaps in the monologue.

The protagonist is constantly reminding the listener of how much of a 'better" person he is without any real action. At least 80% of the story is the "dark lord" monologuing on the same "moral" points again and again. While the actions happens in the background with little or no reason but to prove how great and conflicted the protagonist is. You can tell he really is great because all the woman like him.

Sadly it didn't add anything to the first book and feel everything could of been resolved then rather than dragging it out over another book.

Super fun

If you liked the first one you will most likely like this one. Funny, subverting expectations while still a satisfying story. It is progression but not the mind numbing rpg states. Love it.

Solid Prog Fantasy

The adventures of the unwilling Dark Lord continue. The book is a bit heavy-handed in its moralizing, but the characters are sympathetic and developed well and the plot is entertaining and progresses significantly. This book does end at a reasonable stopping point.

The Hero does not play a significant part in this book, which seems a lost opportunity.

This series has been entertaining enough so far that i will be continuing with it soon. Recommended.

excellent storytelling

the narrator was flawless like the first book, and the story gets wild. By this point you've already got an understanding of all the relevant characters and build up, so all that's really left is watching the dominoes fall.

Somehow, It's Even Better

The first book was amazing. Great characters, great worldbuilding, great humor, and great magic. The problems were nice and unique, the solutions fresh and interesting, and everyone felt like real, human characters. Consequences were real and brutal, and situations complex enough to bring the world to life. Plus, the narration was some of the best I've ever heard.

And yet I come to you on this fine day to say that somehow, the second book is better. Maybe because we have more connection to the characters. Maybe because they lean more in to the humor. Maybe because they turn the sheer charisma Seiji is projecting up to eleven. But somehow, Webb managed to make a sequel that surpasses the original.

It's a thoroughly enjoyable continuation of the story, and I quite like how everything progressed. I'd also like to thank the author for putting so much effort into finalizing this book, as I've heard it's been hard on their mental health. As much as I can't wait for book three, please do take some time for yourself.

In which the Dark Lord is tired of these weebs

The author and actor continue their excellent work from the first book. If you liked the first, you'll probably like this one as well.

I know it's not much of a review, but I've got to write something to give this 5 stars.

Solid

A very solid isekai story. no anoying sexual objectifying of women by MC or romance at all ( so far) The main can be high handed and snooty at times, but then he can also be self aware, and admits when he makes a mistake.

a lot of kingdom building mechanics ( that I love), I wish we got to hear more of the day to day in the castle, of the army coming together and building a community. A lot of the side characters are come and go to me, can't really put a name or action to most characters except a few.

The narration is, what can I say, a big part of why I even picked up the book in the first place. It's Todd literally my favorite narrator of all time. so I may be bias.
