An old man who was a member of the French Resistance died a natural death clutching a 1,000 franc bank note issued in 1940. It was part of the evidence from a well-known 1944 train robbery. Then comes a string of burglaries, perpetrators unknown, and a particularly brutal murder. Time for Bruno to put up with all sorts of federal law enforcement. Great police work stringing out the clues and suspects. As addictive as the others I am binge-reading in this series!
Voice actor Robert Ian MacKenzie is excellent with interpretation and character definition, and superior in the rolling tones of French pronunciations.

What is it about a historical train robbery?

Vichy money, French resistance fighters, amazing food, and Bruno. What a great book!

I love the fact that Martin Walker is not afraid to address current issues. It makes it more interesting to see how these issues are handled in a small French town by its Chief of Police. I just love Bruno! And Bruno loves strong, successful women. I wish he'd pick one! :-) But where's the fun in that?

This is another wonderful book in this series that I hope never ends.

These keep getting better

I love the Bruno books. And the narration is generally excellent. However, I recommend that Mackenzie work on his American accent - at least that’s what I think it was supposed to be for the character of Jacqueline. That didn’t sound like any American I ever heard. Much too precise for us Yanks, and seemed to lean Scottish . 😊

Work on American accent

If you're a Bruno fan, there is a big revelation in this story. This has an exciting storyline and interesting plot.

Captivating to the end

The stories flow together with continuing characters and references to prior books. Such a likable main character in Bruno

Love the narrator

This was one of the best books I’ve ever read, especially the wording that was really well done

Really good book

I have listened to Bruno mysteries before and I enjoy a complicated plot - when it is justified Sadly, this Bruno mystery uses too many unnecessary complications, seemingly to pad the story. Everything moves very slowly. Also, too many dinners described and too many bottles of wine poured Too many possible lovers for Bruno
Finally, the narrator reads too slowly, too little drama in his voice

High Hopes but Let Down

all though we were left wondering about that stash of old French bank notes the Resistance folks took from the Nazi train.

another great adventure with Bruno
