Willow & Long (I hope for a many book series).
Peter Grainger has another page turner, could not stop 🛑 listening. I Wondered In first chapter how Willow & Long would mesh, WOW. What a ride, stayed up until 3am to finish.
Henrietta Meire excellent performance 🎭, she makes this series special in the same manner Gildart Jackson makes DC Smith.

Wrong reader
Emily Willows is a ‘middle aged’ woman and Meire’s frail, tired, wavering characterization paints her as geriatric. And flatly geriatric at that. Everyone is flat. And please slow down, it’s not a race! I have come to enjoy Grainger’s work, which can be informative, suspenseful, witty, insightful and at times, lyrical and this reader does not do him justice. It’s disappointing. As far as the story goes, it’s our introduction to these characters so there’s that getting to know them thing… it’s an ok story. But given the reader I probably won’t go into them more deeply.

Good story
This was the first Peter Grainger book I’ve heard and I enjoyed it but like other people have commented it just ends to shortly like a made for television program, it just ended abruptly it felt like. I think it could have gone on for two or three more chapters, to set up the next book.

Satisfying, clever, evocative!
What a pair these two make. The author brilliantly introduces a fascinating cast of characters, creates a wonderful, picturesque backdrop, and provides plenty of reasons to read the next in the series. The narration is superb. I wanted to hear more! It was short, and the narration went along at a good clip. For the first time, I occasionally slowed it down.

Great listen!
Narration: 5/5, story 5/5. This is a definite yes if you’re wondering is it worth it. Not 1/4 of the way through listening and I started searching hopefully to find the next book in the series. When I happily found it (One Way Tickets) I snapped it up. Peter Grainger’s writing is delightful and engrossing and Henrietta Meire’s performance is spot on.

Not as engrossing as D.I. Smith
I bought both 1& 2 because I love Peter Grainger’s British mysteries. Not regretting my purchase; it was fast paced in spots and an okay listen, but will not buy more. Willow and Lane lack the appeal of Grainger’s earlier, we’ll-developed Smith series’ characters.
