Juicy secrets about a monster in grandmas clothing

Sooo interesting! Well written by someone who actually knew many of the characters in this biography. Also great narration by Jennifer Dixon.

Knowledge of history

I enjoyed hearing the author’s perspective and knowledge of recent history. Few are as well connected, yet not intrusive. Her balanced approach was informative which helps to explain personalities and events.

Wow - what a B****h!

She wasn't ROYAL, in the legal sense, but only marriage and an abdication placed her there.
But that 'Sweet, Granny-style' smile had all of us outsiders fooled. This is a wonderful telling of a life poorly lived. As they say, 'Karma's a B***h'. One wonders about those who don't expect to have to pay-their-debts in the next lifetime......

Intriguing look into the royal family

Enjoyed the narrator, easy to understand and pleasant to listen too. The story was very interesting, while some of it was well publicized, much of it was new. Some parts were verbatim from "The Little Princesses" as well as other books about the royals. Genuinely enjoyed this one.

A Mix of Detailed Relationships and Sometimes Bitter Details 1

The paragraphs of detailed family connections and almost nasty attributions of the Queen Mothers interior thoughts and motivations attributions nearly made it unreadable. Almost.
The author frequently provided psychoanalytic frameworks that mixed up multiple diagnoses and presumed a level of knowledge of Queen Marys inner thoughts and motivations...often in very critical ways.
And yet, I listened all the way through. The same attention to details of set, setting, and relationships made for a very intimate view of a fascinating life. If you can mentally set aside caustic attacks on the subject, there is value here. The book is well organized, writing clear and precise. Be prepared for those brief untranslated French phrases British authors of a certain class and time seem to love. If you can integrate the good and the bad and don't mind segues down generations of complex Royal Relationships from time to time, its worth a listen.

Excellent biography

Learned so much about Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, and have a much greater understanding about the duke of Windsor.

The narration is quite good. Recommend.

Well written and much enjoyed. A true valuable batch of information and details of a very long life.
