Acerca de esta escucha

I can't believe it! I've really been accepted into the Royal Scouts? For real?

It's a dream come true for a farm boy like myself, to gain access to the Portal Halls and be able to explore the worlds beyond. More than that, it means I can finally provide for my family. After all, they're the ones who put their savings on the line so I could get a chance to join this prestigious guild. And if I may be at a disadvantage compared to other recruits, as all I know is how to grow beans, I plan on boosting my skills as soon as possible.

You see, our mission as Scouts is simple: dive into one of the many portals lining up the halls of the Portalway, map the area, and get out of there before the timer runs out. But the reason we're charting those realms in the first place is to locate Eon Stones—stones that grant the wearer magical powers, from the ability to regrow a limb to giving you near invisibility. And if I can sell my surveys for cash, I can also use those stones to empower myself and move up the ranks!

There's the thing though… No one knows exactly which portal leads where until someone dives in first. It could be a strange land where the physics run differently than here; it could be lush or desolate, beautiful or terrifying, with dangerous fauna or even monsters the stuff of nightmares…

But I'm getting ahead of myself here. I'm still a Browncloak, or a newbie if you like, and so I'm confined to the first floor until I get some experience under my belt. So it shouldn't be too hard. Or should it? They wouldn't want to send a novice to his death now, would they?

Naive Nube Excels By Adventuring Dangerously

Andrew Karevik seems to not have spend much time fleshing-out Book 1 of this series, unlike his very enjoyable Divine Seed Series. The MC is a typical young person of low standing (bean farmer) who joins an organization that maps out new portal territories where magical skill rocks exist and returns the maps to be given to more advanced adventurers to battle monsters and acquire the magical stones. However, our intrepid nube cartographer seems to stumble his way into acquiring these skill stones along the way, quickly earning organizational advancement beyond his skill level.

Early on, he befriends a couple of other nubes but very little interaction with them follows.

Essentially, the MC was uninteresting and his abandonment of his new found friends made them uninteresting, as well.

Austin Rising's performance was well done even given the dull plot of the book.

I'll not be continuing this series.

A great easy listen

No harems, no highschool relationship drama, no inane profanity. Just a kid trying to do the right thing in opportunity and in sticky situations. Keep up to good work!

Easy listening

It is easy to stop and start this book. Which is a bonus in my opinion. Easy listening and enjoyable.

Entertaining world

We have all been there, in over our head with no support. Over coming all odds and making a good show. I will be listing to the next book.

What's the point?

This book starts with him getting accepted as a scout. immediately it is obvious that he knows very little about the job. He gets no training but is instead sent through a portal. He repeats this and withing 5 portals he gets promoted. He has a massive hero complex despite the fact that he is repeatedly told that his job is to scout and NOT intervene with the native populations.

Beyond that, there is literally no cohesive goal to the story.

Bad Virtue Signaling Bumbling

MC is a gold plated idiot with the most black and white morality you can imagine. He just white knights his way through the worst decisions and everything just happens to magically work out.
He is sooo good he talks the bad guys into good guys every time, and they even pay him for the privilege. Everything works out perfectly and he is the savior of the worlds without even trying, what moronic drivel.
All the characters drool all over him and spill their inner motivations for no reason except that the MC has the perfect faux platitudes to solve all their tiny problems.
This would be great for a 10 year old if you wanted them to go fight bullies with words only to get the most gnarly swirly of their life.
