Acerca de esta escucha

“Will keep readers on the edge of their seats.” - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Who is THE NOWHERE MAN?

He is spoken about only in whispers. He comes to those in greatest need of his protection. There is no enemy he cannot fight. He lives by his own code. He takes no prisoners. His name is Evan Smoak.

Taken from a group home when he was young, Evan was raised and trained as an Orphan, an off-the-books black box program designed to create the perfect deniable intelligence asset: An assassin. Evan was Orphan X - until he used everything he’d learned to disappear and reinvent himself as the Nowhere Man. But now, his new life has been interrupted by a surprise attack from an unlikely source. Captured, drugged, and spirited off to a remote location, Evan finds himself heavily guarded from everything he knows. His captors think they have him trapped and helpless in a virtual cage, but they do not know that they’re dealing with one of the deadliest, most resourceful men on earth.

“Superb on all levels and a must-read for all thriller fans.” - Providence Journal

“A masterpiece of suspense and thrills.” - Associated Press on Orphan X

Edge of Your Seat Good

Any additional comments?

I loved Orphan X and was waiting not so patiently for the second book in the series. The wait was worth it - Nowhere Man is fantastic. It gripped me from the first page to the last. Evan Smoak (the Nowhere Man or Orphan X) is one of the best heroes in thriller literature. I find him similar in many ways to Jack Reacher but I can relate to Evan Smoak a little better. In this book Evan is continuing with his "pay if forward" help for people who are in desperate trouble. Evan never fails to rescue the people who need him, but this time he is in desperate trouble and time is running out for the person he needs to help - in fact time is running out for Evan. Early on he is in captivity and has a lot of time on his hands to think about his mentor, Jack. In the previous book Evan has watched Jack bleed out on the floor of a parking garage and feels guilty because he believes he caused Jack to be shot. Jack was like a father to Evan - the only person that ever cared about him and that he ever cared about. There are a lot of bad guys out in the world that want Evan dead too. And I mean really BAD guys. There are a lot of people out there that Evan has helped and people he wants to help in the future. I was really pulling for Evan to get out of his predicament. There are several other reoccurring characters in this series. Now I can't wait for the third book. This is becoming one of my favorite series.

Love Evan Smoak..

Okay, this is what I’m talking about. Evan tried to escape from Rene’s fortress twice and both times got caught and taken back. Finally Rene found out who Evan really was and decided on an auction for all those who Evan hurt, killing someone in their family, or killing more than one someone. It was amazing and exciting all the time he was a captive. He never gave up, never accepted defeat. All he thought about was Alison, who was in a shipping container on her way to a foreign country to be sold, and of the boy who kept calling Evan asking for help.

I have no idea what the 1 star reviews were talking about in complaining about this book. It was sooo damn exciting I had to keep pausing the narration to catch my breath. One reviewer said this, “Nowhere man is a good suspense thriller, but it loses credibility when prisoner Evan Smoak always finds the right response to the many desperate situations he encounters.” Well, yeah! That’s what a hero does. This is a BOOK! It’s not real life. This comes from the author’s imagination, not his life experiences. But then there’s a reason 5500+ readers gave this book 4 and 5 star reviews.

Anyway, as much as I love Evan Smoak I won’t be moving forward to book 3. The first 2 were $2.99 and the third one is $9.99? Yeah, that’s not going to happen. There’s too many other good books out there where the price is reasonable for me to spend that much on the 3rd in the series. Maybe if the publisher and author get over being ridiculous with the cost of books I’ll read it. Until then I will say I enjoyed the first 2 books.

No romance or sex and the F-bomb was used 29 times.

As to the narration: As always, I love Scott Brick. He sure needs help with his women’s voices but he does everything else so well that I can forgive him.

Intense

No-one is this strong and crafty and unintentionally compassionate , however it’s cool to think it could be possible. Evan is a scary good guy. Good read!

FANTASTIC

Evan Smoak, aka Orphan X, aka The Nowhere Man wins 1st place in Time Magazine's "Most Talented and Mentally Unstable Fictional Killers" of 2017. Mr. Smoak, a landslide winner of this same category in 2016 for his brilliant debut in Orphan X, has done it again in The Nowhere Man. In the face of overwhelming odds, even fellow tough guys like The Gray Man, Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, Gabriel Allon, or John Rain would surely find themselves dead, but Evan Smoak pushes himself beyond death and back to survive the impossible in The Nowhere Man. What an awesome story!!
Although Scott Brick's narration is excellent, it's not worthy of a Time Magazine award, (possibly an honorable mention in People Magazine).

very realistic.

I read a lot of other reviews before reading this book. A lot of the complained that this book was too long and draw out. I think this book is just very realistic. This character is a real person, not a super hero. He has real problems that he works out and not everything goes to plan.

NOT EVAN!!!!

Evan was taken from the orphanage he grew up in at a young age. He was trained to do horrible and unspeakable things for the government. Once his handler died, he left the project and went his own way. His mission was to protect those in trouble from dangerous situations they wanted out of. Everything is fine until he's tracked down. Now he's on the run for his life. He's a loose end that needs to be taken care of.

I'm seriously impressed with this book. I was kind of hesitant when I read the description of the first book, Orphan X. I gave it a chance anyway. In honor of the fifth book coming out this year (January 28th). I'm very glad I did quite frankly. It kind of reads like the Hitman. I also find it similar to the Jane Hawk series. I'm not sure if anybody has heard of that series, but it's good as well.

I still feel a disconnect with all the characters in the novel. I think that's kind of the point. Evan was raised as an assassin. He had no human interaction from anybody from a very young age with the exception of those who used him as a weapon. I realize that his handler tried to keep humanity in him, but one can only hold so much after they've killed many people. I really loved the neighbor chick and her son. She's very intelligent and down to earth. He has a connection with them as well. It's so obvious.

Like the first book, this book is narrated by Scott Brick. I picked up the first book because of time constraints, but I loved his narration so much that I got the second and third books in the series in audiobook as well. I plan to get the last two in the series in audio when I can get my hands on some credits. I also noticed there are some shot novellas that are reasonably priced that I plan to pick up as well. It's amazing how somebody can narrate normally and still add an intense thrill to a book.

I've really enjoyed this series so far. I believe that I will enjoy the rest of the series just as much. I may even enjoy it more. I can't wait to find out. I'm sure there are many things I can compare it to. Not that I like comparing. But it's screamed Hitman at me since I first started reading it. I can't ignore those vibes. It's an amazing read. I will reread it again in the future.

Could not put this down.

Excellent listening, I was a little addicted and literally ended up putting off some of my responsibilities. Was a bit disappointed with the last few chapters because I felt the author was trying to wrap everything up and skimmed over a bunch of detail explaining how things happened. Might have needed another hour or so. Regardless, I can't wait to listen to the next one.

Love this series

Great series, modern day Jason Bourne/ equalizer. Can't for the next book. In my opinion the first book was better, hence the 4 stars on story.

Nearly Exhausting!

This next installment was so densely packed it wore me out even as I couldn't stop listening. And by the finish only the essential loose threads still flapping so there is no end in sight. I'd cheer if I weren't so spent . Narrator matches author for incredible range and nuance. Yikes! Yay!

love this series.

This series is great. The narrator is phenomenal. I found myself getting discouraged about Evans predicament in the beginning.
