This is probably the best mystery I've ever listened to…

Great plot, well-written, with great characters and a story that is fast paced and interesting. The main character is a therapist, and some of the book takes place in a group therapy setting, which the author handles incredibly well. Makes me think he's got some psychological background. I'm afraid to say more for fear of giving away important plot points… I'll just say that the book never sagged for me, and I was sorry when it ended.

A Riveting THriller

Would you listen to Tell No Lies again? Why?

I'd give myself a couple years to forget the nuances of the story but I think I would enjoy reading it again. There is so much going on in the psyche of the characters and their interaction.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Daniel, he leads the show!

Which scene was your favorite?

THe scene in which Daniel is "in the center chair" in his group, compared to being the group's therapist leader. He deliberately puts himself in this very vulnerable position, attempting to draw out the antagonist.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Your unknown past will come back to haunt you.

My heart is in San Francisco

Great book. Good plot, perfect narrator. But the part that had me in tears at time was the eloquent descriptors of San Francisco landmarks and neighborhoods. That's the City I love.

Interesting premise

It took a while to figure things out but it proved to be fascinating. As usual Scott Brick was excellent. Character development was good

Loved it

One of the best author/narrator combos is Hurwitz and Brick! You can NEVER go wrong with these two. While I wait for the next Orphan X book from Hurwitz, I figured I'd pick up one of his other books. This was a great thriller! Loved every moment!

Not Hurwitz best. Save your credit.

I am a fan of Gregg Hurwitz, but of the books written by Hurwitz I'd have to say this is my least favorite. It's very predictable and I found myself telling the characters who the killer was about halfway through the book. I don't try to figure out who the murderer is when I read mysteries; I want to be entertained and surprised. There are no surprises in this book. Use your credit for a different book by Hurwitz.

Difficult to get past the Reader

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. The Reader is exhausting- - emphasizing every sentence like life and death hung in the balance. The dog HAS to go OUTSIDE tonight!!! Over dramatic and took away from the story.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was ok- but no reason to pull in a 3rd party except to say there is a twist.

What didn’t you like about Scott Brick’s performance?

See above. Overly emphatic.

Different from other novels

What other book might you compare Tell No Lies to and why?

I can only compare it to other Hurwitz novels--and in doing that, the author surprised me. Just when I expected something like his other novels to happen, he threw in a twist and surprised me.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Normally, I really like Brick's performances, however, having lived and worked in San Francisco for 10 years, he needs to learn the local place names: Moscone Center is pronounced Mos-konee. The same is also true for Noe Valley; it isn't 'No' (like doe, a deer) it's pronounced 'No-ee'.

Great

Hurwitz did it again. His stories leave you on the edge of your seat. Intelligent, great characters, surprises around every corner, no one does it better. Scott Brick is my favorite narrator.

I left my heart....

I enjoyed the premise of this murder mystery but it did remind me a bit of a movie staring Bruce Willis called "Color of Night". The characters were unique and the story kept up a good, fast pace throughout. Even though it had a somewhat predictable ending it was still exciting.
The author did a great job with the descriptions of the city of San Francisco. I used to live there and he brought back many memories for me. He showed just how diverse and beautiful the city is and how it has its own distinctly different weather pattern.
I would read more from this author should any come up as Daily Deals as this one was.
