Acerca de esta escucha
It was the summer of 1965. Ray, Tim, and Jennifer were just three teenage friends hanging out in the campgrounds, drinking a little. But Tim and Jennifer didn't know what their friend Ray had in mind. And if they'd known, they wouldn't have thought he was serious. Then they saw what he did to the two girls at the neighboring campsite - and knew he was dead serious.
Four years later, the 60s were drawing to a close. No one ever charged Ray with the murders in the campgrounds, but there was one cop determined to make him pay. Ray figured he was in the clear. Tim and Jennifer thought the worst was behind them, that the horrors were all in the past. They were wrong. The worst was yet to come.

It's the Arizona Territory. The year, 1848. The year the Mexican War ended. Fate and blazing pistols have just thrown together reporter and part-time drunk Marion T. Plying the river-trade across the Colorado to the gold fields of California in the north, and war-torn Mexico to the south, the town of Gable's Ferry has sprung up overnight-lacking only a church, a schoolhouse and a jail.

Suffer the Children presents a terrifying tale of apocalyptic fiction, as listeners are introduced to Herod's Syndrome, a devastating illness that suddenly and swiftly kills all young children across the globe. Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

Historia
Greece. Ancient land of mystery, legend, and myth. It is here that businessman Jordan Chase visits an historic tomb, only to experience a dark vision of the future. And it is here, amidst the beauty of the landscape, that Lelia, a gorgeous but dangerous woman, befriends a group of tourists...to lure them into a nightmare of pain and terror. She lives to seduce and destroy, to feed off her human prey. Lelia is more than myth, more than superstition. Lelia is deadly.

Disappointing story
Sorry - thought this book would be better with the Stephen King quote on the cover. Never warmed up to the book - the characters were never really developed and story was very east to predict. The narrator was horrible. His pronunciation of simple words made it painful. Don't select this title!

Story was okay, narrator not so much.
Wow, the narrator of this book seemed to have English as his second language. Doesn't anyone listen to these audio books before they publish. Do yourself a favor and read the book on your own. If you have gotten passed the fifth grade, you will enjoy reading it with proper pronunciations!

Decent Thriller
Overall, I was intrigued. I liked the story and it kept me interested the whole time. I don’t think I could hate the main character any more than I do. Although I liked some of the other characters, the author failed to fully develop them and create an empathy in readers for them. I wish I cared more. A few people hate the narrator but I didn’t think he was bad. Not a lot of “saving grace” in this book. Dark all the way through which was depressing

Only Ketchum
I don't know any other horror writers that could put so much heart and compassion into a story as relentlessly bleak as this one.
Stephen King, sure, but it takes him 800 pages.
Dean Koontz, yeah maybe, but his moralizing can get out of control.
Richard Laymon... No. Really just no.
One of my new favorites by Jack, it tempts me to go back and listen to all his other ones I have (excepting, probably, Ladies Night.)

Intense Book, Incompetent Narrator
The book was very intense, dark, and intriguing. I can honestly say that while I didn’t “enjoy” it per se, I did not want to stop reading it. You can’t really call something like this a good book, but it is definitely powerful literature. I’m glad I know this story.
Ok, so, the book itself was 5/5, but the narration was just something else entirely. The man had a nice voice, good expression, but he mispronounced so many words that it yanked me out of the atmosphere on multiple occasions. I feel like there should be some sort of quality control for narration, especially if it’s being produced by a well-known company.

Disappointing Story
The Lost by Jack Ketchum
I had high hopes for The Lost by Jack Ketchum, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite meet my expectations. While the premise of the story—a dark and disturbing tale set in the 1960s—had potential, the execution left much to be desired.
The main issue for me was the pacing. The story dragged on in several parts, making it difficult to stay engaged. The characters, particularly Ray Pye, felt one-dimensional and lacked the depth needed to make their actions believable or compelling. Additionally, the graphic violence and disturbing content seemed gratuitous at times, overshadowing the plot rather than enhancing it.
Ketchum’s writing style is efficient and straightforward, which I usually appreciate, but in this case, it made the narrative feel flat and emotionless. The book’s attempt to delve into the psychological aspects of its characters fell short, leaving me disconnected from their struggles and motivations.
Overall, while The Lost has some moments of tension and horror, it ultimately failed to deliver a satisfying and cohesive story. Fans of Ketchum’s other works might find some value here, but for me, it was a disappointing read.
