After the discovery that the encampment outside of his Safe Zone is full of friendlies, Marc and his group finally have a chance to try to grow stronger again. The addition of an administrator for the Safe Zone as well as someone to coordinate its defenses finally allows Marc to feel like he can go out and do other things.

With the number of survivors they're finding in the immediate area rapidly dwindling, they choose to go farther afield, working on gaining additional resources for the Safe Zone while searching out any remaining survivors they can find.

His father reported passing other Safe Zones on his way back to town so Marc decides some investigation is in order. What he intends is to salvage the ruins of a destroyed Safe Zone his father spotted and offer trade and cordial relations to the surviving one that's closer by. What occurs is not what he intended or expected.

With the possibility of a technology upgrade for his Safe Zone, what appears to be a community of some sort of elves a few miles south of the Safe Zone, and the sneaking suspicion that the System itself is merely a tool for someone, or something, else, Marc isn't quite as free to just do what he wants.

Nice read - enjoyed

Enjoyed the pace and plot. Well laid out story lines and in general held my interest well as to make me want to read the next book in the series, which is often not the case.

it's not the greatest but it's still good stories got to plot holes in it and the tactics are terrible The store itself is still pretty good

got this in the plus catalog so far the series has been a nice break

I listened to light online first and this was suggested and boy do I love the set up you provide it gives me the world building I love with the adventure I crave

Good book. . . good narrator. . .will probably get the next book in the series.

narration a little jarring

The plot is okay, fairly straight forward and easy to predict. The story reads like a young adult novel, just a bit simple, but a nice easy listen. The narrator has a nice voice but he constantly misses inflections on words. I half way feel like it was read by an AI voice program. When he reads a sentence and puts the emphasis on the wrong word, it can be jarring and also change the meaning of the sentence. Thus happened constantly during the book. Maybe 30 plus times.

great story, narrator needs practice.

I am enjoying the story, however the performance is lacking. Pacing of conversations seem off and while there is different voices there needs to be more emotion. half the time everything seems to semi monotone. While this works for the stat blocks, it doesn't for the interaction and combat. There basically no life to the performance.

Review

I was able to listen to the audiobook from book 1 all the way to book 5. I would give this audible book series a C- in the terms of enjoyment. The biggest weakness I see with this audible series is the lack of the magic system not fully flushed out. Which is disappointing, because the author has a very unique twist when it comes to Litrpg book series. The narrator was good, except when he started to voice female characters, he was actually pretty terrible!. There are times when I cringe just listening to him voice a female character😖. This series would’ve been helped if there was another narrator which was female, would’ve helped flush out the female characters..
