Acerca de esta escucha
One of the foremost ADHD experts tackles adult cases in the aging generation and offers a practical, helpful guide for those with and without a diagnosis
Do you…
- Forget to pay bills
- Live in a disorganized environment
- Struggle with depression and anxiety
- Procrastinate on projects, even ones that initially excite you
- Have high levels of conflict with those close to you
- Have a child diagnosed with ADHD and/or a family history of learning disorders
If some of these patterns sound familiar, you may have undiagnosed ADHD. ADHD in adults is one of the most common disorders. Living with ADHD in our later years is hugely influenced by multiple factors: co-occurring issues, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and learning disorders combined with a heightened level of stress, the presence or lack of support from others, and the number of people we are responsible for, can complicate and intensify the effects of ADHD.
The good news is that you’ve come to the right place to learn more about how older adults with ADHD can lead calmer, happier, more productive lives. Dr. Kathleen Nadeau, a foremost authority on ADHD, has been working with this underserved and underrepresented population. Dedicated to the health and wellbeing of today’s older adults with ADHD, Still Distracted After All These Years offers strategies to build a support system, gain better control over your daily life and create a more ADHD-friendly retirement.

Understanding Girls with ADHD does not shy away from key areas of controversy. How, for example, can a family know whether it's ADHD or another set of problems that's the primary issue? How does one deal with the potential use of medication, which is plagued by bad press and abundant myths but which can, as part of a multi-faceted treatment plan, provide great benefit if the right dose is found and if the doctor works with the family to monitor positive effects and side effects carefully?

If you’re struggling to stay on top of your to-do list, you probably have a good reason: anxiety, fatigue, depression, ADHD, or lack of support. For therapist KC Davis, the birth of her second child triggered a stress-mess cycle. The more behind she felt, the less motivated she was to start. She didn’t fold a single piece of laundry for seven months. One life-changing realization restored her sanity—and the functionality of her home: You don’t work for your home; your home works for you.

The ADHD brain comes with some unique challenges, and until we recognize what they are, they will keep getting in our way. Starting new things, stopping others, concentrating, studying, getting stuff done, paying the bills, and getting on with life just seems so much harder for you than for others. That’s because it actually is, and it is time we faced up to this. ADHD brains are not wrong, weak, or broken–just different. And because the world is set up for neurotypical people, those with ADHD struggle to fit in with these systems which are not matched to them or their needs at all.

From ADHD and dyslexia to autism, the number of diagnosis categories listed by the American Psychiatric Association has tripled in the last fifty years. With so many affected, it is time to revisit our perceptions of people with disabilities. Psychologist and educator Thomas Armstrong illuminates a new understanding of neuropsychological disorders. He argues that if they are a part of the natural diversity of the human brain, they cannot simply be defined as illnesses. Armstrong explores the evolutionary advantages, special skills, and other positive dimensions of these conditions.

Historia
A resource for couples in which one of the partners suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), this book guides troubled marriages toward an understanding and appreciation for the struggles and triumphs of a relationship affected by it and to look at the disorder in a more positive way. Going beyond traditional marriage counseling, this discussion offers advice from the author's personal experience and years of research and identifies patterns of behavior that can hurt marriages.

Great content!
Helpful specifically for older adults with ADHD. I feel more informed, supported, affirmed, and empowered. I loved the author's voice in the preparatory chapter and wish she had read the whole book.

Diagnosis at 61 thank you
Seems like I learned everything backwards and find workarounds after the fact. Hyperfocus helped me to listen to 33 audiobooks about ADHD since last July. “understanding girls with ADHD” was my third book. I really appreciated the information there it really spoke to everything I had been through my entire life. thank you for turning the focus on older adults.

Eye Opening
I was diagnosed late in life. I was 53 in 2018 when I told for the first time a licensed professional whom I trust that I had ADHD. I was another 2 years before I was taking meds and seek strategies for coping with symptoms. This book added to that journey in a very meaningful way. I have sent my daughter and brother copies. I will definitely have to listen to it again to get all it truly holds. Thank to the moon and back for writing this. I can’t tell you how many ways it has helped make my life better.
