Acerca de esta escucha

Join the movement that celebrates single living with Peter McGraw's groundbreaking book, Solo.

Amid the complexities of modern relationships, loneliness epidemics, and online dating burnout, there's a refreshing alternative: going Solo. "Solos," as coined by behavioral economist Peter McGraw, are people who choose to lead their lives authentically, purposefully, and passionately outside the confines of traditional relationship labels.

In a world built for two, Solos break the rules and hold space for every type of individual—single and not. Meet the thriving "Just Mays," who welcome romance if it comes their way, the determined "No Ways," who prefer life unpartnered, and the bold "New Ways," who redefine and redesign what relationships even mean.

Which one are you?

In contrast with the "Someday" singles who hang personal fulfillment on the success of a "serious" long-term relationship, McGraw reveals the secrets of happiness that Solos have already unlocked, offering listeners a roadmap to reinventing sex, dating, romance, and beyond.

Backed by scientific insights and McGraw's experience as a lifelong bachelor, Solo offers a blueprint for cultivating fulfilling relationships and creating a rich remarkable life. Solo is your invitation to pursue a life uniquely your own.

Great Intro to Soloism

It introduced the basic concepts well and created a foundation for further exploration. I invite the author to consider writing a follow up book with more details about beneficial and detrimental policies for single people and how to effectively influence improved policies for the population.

life-changing

I never thought that I could thrive as a Solo. I've always felt like a failure after a relationship didn't work out, because that was the ultimate life goal, to find true love or "your person" and to be with them forever and that didn't seem to be working out for me. This book is validating, informative and encouraging. I'm off to get coffee and read a book in a coffee shop, by myself and I cannot wait for more of that.

An assortment of mostly not useful information

There were chapters that were completely un interesting to me…and others that had a lot of mostly obvious information. Maybe 10 percent of the information shared was interesting to me. Most of the advice felt obvious to me, like stuff that most people over 30 would know.. and a lot of other superfluous stuff that I just wasn’t interested in.

The live your (solo or other) best life guide book

A broad perspective on alternatives to marriage, 2.5 kids and the house with a picket fence while also celebrating it. An excellent read in diversity by offering representation for all family styles. Solos matter. I’m glad that Dr. McGraw was born and his quest for a meaningful life helps mine and many other’s lives more meaningful.

Solo is a mindset

Enjoyed having my long time thoughts of being a non-couple re-framed and substantiated with data. Peter McGraw debunks the cultural norms that places solos as second class citizens or less fulfilled than a couple.

Encouraging, but not very interesting

Good information on different ways of living. A little boring at times, but still worth the listen

Ignore Chapter 9, "Relationship Design"

I was enjoying this book until the author spoke about "Relationship Design" - where he actually thinks a woman and a man who want to date talk openly other about their relationship boundaries, expectations, values, etc. Excellent in theory, but this is how I know he is terribly oblivious to his own gender's attitudes. Does he honestly think the vast majority of men are willing to engage in such honest communication from the get go, when they're usually just seeing how long it takes to get laid? Most jump to defensiveness then anger when they detect even a whiff of rejection. The author has never had to date his own kind - of course he thinks discussing relationship logistics from day one with women is a great idea because we generally have the emotional maturity and ability to respect other people's decisions without resorting to potential violence. I'm surprised none of his female friends brought this to his attention... perhaps his writing was done a bit too solo.

Disgusting

I appreciate the practice of being single but the sexual lifestyles promoted are gross . Definitely upside for men who as a rule can sleep with anyone anytime without emotional repercussions, not sure that promiscuity works well for women
