excellent we ii story

this writer knows his subs and the story is damn good. dont pass this listen up if your into US sub warfare.

The narrative was very well performed

Lousy narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Maybe. The narrator ruined the good fiction for me with his constant rapid dialogue and portraying all commanding officers as very excitable men which they certainly are not.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Slowed his delivery down to a more nearly normal pace. I suspect he is normally a fast talker but fast food drive through speech speed gets pretty wearing especially when the writer has the excitement covered with his writing skills. The delivery speed was wearing enough that I had to take breaks from the book to allow my ears to rest. My mind kept wondering if he was going to ask me if I wanted "fries with that". Again Commanding Officers cannot lead men if they themselves are excitable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A good narrator could have made me cry at some of the things that happened particularly when Mako was sinking.

Excellent submarine story

Brought back memories of my time aboard the SSN-621 USS Haddock. Great and easy to read.

Excellent listen!

Listening to the stories of the Navy submariners and the sacrifices they made for our freedom is awe inspiring. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing the excitement and sadness of the war to life. I highly recommend this book.

I greatly enjoyed the book it was very entertaining and I I couldn't stop listening I found myself going back to the audiobook as often as possible

Solid WWII Submarine action!!

Demonstrates solid knowledge of the challenges facing US Submariners in WWII. Mr. Snow is did an ok job, but seemed a little unpolished.

The combat parts are great and you can tell the author new his subject. His attacks on the brass of the Navy is a little heavy and having served 10 years in that service in the medical branch, may be an honest opinion

I enjoyed the camaraderie.

I enjoyed the story but greatly disliked (even cringed each time) that the author thought it ok to call a submarine a “ship”. They are only/always referred to as “boats”. Obviously not submariner proofread this story. Sloppy work. This detracted from a really good story line.

This is a great adaptation of the naval war.historical accurate but a bit corny about there personal lives,still a great story.
