must read

I would definitely follow this book with the book you wish your parent had read. This book is very informative and gives a lot of great examples. the book following helps you to apply what you have learned and catering more to the reader of an emotional level. This book has more of a logical theme. Very well written book and very beneficial to parents.

Highly recommend it

A great book for any parent in any stage of their parenting. Especially for parents that are really caring for how their Children are going to grow up and going to be for our society.

This should be a part of every parent’s arsenal for raising healthy adults. The lessons here are invaluable.

Good advice

I found some beneficial information. there was a chapter named "The father's crucial role" which basically infer the father's role is pivotal and a mother has no influence by comparison and definitely not as important. I know that is not true. I would have liked to see a chapter titled "The mother's crucial role" as we all know a mother is crucial to the emotional support of children and it could have been beneficial to examine those roles and how mothers could improve in that area and how they can counteract the ever present issue of their children's absent or emotionally absent father's.

Good, albeit moralistic and outdated at times

The main message of the importance of emotional coaching is well laid out with plenty of practical guidance. The author sometimes goes too far when suggesting that a whole bunch of systemic social issues could be avoided with more emotional coaching, which is a bold statement and also unscientific because it is unfalsifiable. Clearly the man is a psychologist and not an economist or political analyst. So I suggest sticking to the parts that are about psychological child development.
Narration is not good. You can tell from the way that the narrator emphasizes certain words that he often does not understand what he's reading.

Every parent needs to read this book.

I wish my parents would have read this book while parenting me! I have an 18mo & 2mo and am beginning to apply what I learned now! Thank you Mr. Gottman!

I loved this! Every parent should listen to this! It helped me understand better how to be present for my child.

Great for anyone who engages with children regularly

This is wonderful information as a parent. I wish I read it before my children were born, but it’s never too late to become more emotionally intelligent yourself and help your children to become more emotionally intelligent. It also provides many examples of how an adult can interact with a child and help them understand their emotions, so this would be great for grandparents, teachers and others who regularly engage with the same kids.

This is a must read!

this book was one of the best books I have ever read, it truly was a self-awareness of things that I could improve on, things that I was doing well, but more so will give me the tools that I need to connect emotionally with not only my kids, but also anyone else that I encounter. truly inspirational!
