Acerca de esta escucha

A psychiatric patient’s desperate search for answers reveals peculiar memories and unexpected connections in a twisty and mind-bending novel of love, family, betrayal, and secrets.

Eddie Asher arrives at Hudson Valley Psychiatric Hospital panicked that he may have murdered his brother’s fiancée, Lucy, with whom he shared a profound kinship. He can’t imagine doing such a terrible thing, but Eddie hasn’t been himself lately.

Eddie’s anxiety is nothing new to Pär, the one Eddie calls his Other, who protects Eddie from truths he’s too sensitive to face. Or so Pär says. Troubled by Pär’s increasing sway over his life, Eddie seeks out Dr. Richard Montgomery, a specialist in dissociative identities. The psychiatrist is Eddie’s best chance for piecing together the puzzle of what really happened to Lucy and to understanding his inexplicable memories of another man’s life. But Montgomery’s methods trigger a kaleidoscope of memories that Pär can’t contain, bringing Eddie closer to an unimaginable truth about his identity.

Reseñas de la Crítica

Mirror Me is an exquisitely rendered meditation on race, family, and memory. With stylish prose and tender storytelling, Williamson Rosenberg explores what it means to have your identity divided at the root and ultimately answers the question we all have about where we truly belong.”—Nancy Johnson, author of The Kindest Lie

“Boundaries of consciousness blur and twist in Lisa Williamson Rosenberg’s compulsively readable second novel, Mirror Me, a heart-pounding exploration of identity, family, and the interconnected webs of the human psyche. Eddie Asher’s desperate journey through the echoes of memories not entirely his own will keep readers mesmerized until the final reveal. Perfect for fans of Behind Her Eyes, Williamson Rosenberg’s unputdownable novel delves into the many ways a person can be Other—even to themselves. Get ready to question everything you thought you knew about the nature of the self in this thrilling and thought-provoking read.”—Anne Burt, author of The Dig

Mirror Me is a mesmerizing mind bender. Love, betrayal, secrets, and one man’s quest to decode his fragmented memories had me on the edge of my seat as I made my way through this gripping exploration of the human psyche.”—Deborah Copaken, New York Times bestselling author of The Red Book and Ladyparts

So boring

I am an avid reader. I will read basically anything. The ONLY reason I finished this is because it was audio and was fine for background noise. The story line had so much potential but I feel like the telling of it failed spectacularly.

Good probably better to read than listen.

Since I’m in the field I probably have a bit more of a critical perspective on a book like this one. I really wanted to like it. There is a lot there but the audio version, which is now my preferred source, does nothing to help the story. Unfortunately narration was a big factor. Par, who by far has the most speaking parts is conveyed in a way to be haughty, narcissistic and emotionally superior. Yikes that was not achieved. He just sounded sort of ridiculous as did Lucy. I think it’s far better to forgo trying to achieve a voice other than your own gender if it’s not your strength or skill set for narration. With all of that as a distraction it’s difficult to really be invested in the characters and their story. So I would not necessarily tank this one altogether, skip the audio version and see if the book conveys a bit better.

interesting...

Well, this was certainly an interesting read, and it held my attention. It made me wonder, though, can or has something like what was going on with Eddie, Pär, and Anders actually happen?
