Acerca de esta escucha

So often, addiction is viewed as a disease or an uncontrollable habit that signals a lack of willpower. In Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy for Addictions, IFS educator Cece Sykes, IFS author Martha Sweezy, and IFS founder, Richard Schwartz, suggest a paradigm shift. Rather than viewing addiction as a pathology, they propose that it reflects the behavior of polarized, protective parts struggling to manage underlying emotional pain.

In this audio manual, therapists will learn to access their core, compassionate Self and collaborate with clients in befriending protective parts who engage in addictive processes; healing the vulnerable, wounded parts they protect; and restoring balance to their system. Included inside:

  • Experiential exercises to help clients (and therapists) get to know their own parts
  • Guidelines for conducting assessments in an engaging, collaborative way
  • Clear strategies for negotiating internal conflict and navigating polarizations between opposing parts
  • Case examples annotated with step-by-step explanations
  • Downloadable worksheets, handouts, and meditations

This audiobook is skillfully narrated by Kathleen Godwin.

Loved it!

I’m working on sex and love addiction with BDSM involved. I’m not a therapist and my therapist doesn’t really use IFS, so I feel like I have to do this on my own - although I share what I’m doing with her in therapy sessions. This book helped me immensely to see how my parts interact together and how to connect with them in helpful ways. I’m in a 12 Step program, but I feel IFS helps so much since I have a part that is a sub, and it will fight me if I try to get rid of it and I see that as repressing a desire I have rather than truly showing up for it and working with it in a helpful way. IFS gives me a framework to deal with my sex addiction and kink parts in ways that see their needs and pain and how they are trying to help me, so I can work with them in compassionate ways. I have to put this into practice now, so it’s a book I will listen to more than once. Really a fantastic read. Thank you for talking about exiles because so many IFS books say a therapist needs to deal with that, which pisses my manager part off since I don’t have an IFS therapist and have to do this work mostly on my own, sharing with others after the fact. I know that’s not ideal, but we don’t live in a world where everyone can get an IFS therapist, so I truly appreciate when resources help walk me through the whole of IFS. This book didn’t shy away from the difficult work around exiles. Much gratitude and love. 🙏❤️
