Jennifer Love Hewitt
Acerca de esta escucha
When she lost her mother to cancer, everything changed for Jennifer Love Hewitt. In Inheriting Magic, she recounts her journey, sharing memories, recipes, and the magic-making ethos of a self-proclaimed “Holiday Junkie.”
A heartfelt, candid chronicle that charts a course from sorrow to celebration, this unique memoir includes:
• Jennifer’s favorite recipes, from her grandmother’s chicken and dumplings to her husband’s holiday cocktail
• An explosion of festive plans, including images, sure to inspire your decorating plans for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and a whole year’s worth of holidays
• Foolproof strategies for adding magic to your family’s everyday routine, such as moon water, baskets of joy, glowing dinners, and more
Inheriting Magic is about how grief, being a mom of three, having a deep love for party planning, and being passionate about the holidays turned what could have been an ordinary life into something enchanting. Through it, Jennifer inspires all listeners to add more love, light, and the making of core memories into their everyday lives.
“Jennifer Love Hewitt takes us on a journey of love, loss, and self-realization … One part self-help, one part memoir, and one part how-to, Jennifer manages to straddle three different genres, giving all moms a treasure trove of ideas with a healthy dose of heart.”—Jenny Mollen, actor and New York Times bestselling author of City of Likes and I Like You Just the Way I Am
This enhanced edition contains an audio-exclusive Q&A with the author and additional bonus content throughout the memoir.

Brooke Shields has spent a lifetime in the public eye. Growing up as a child actor and model, her every feature was scrutinized, her every decision judged. Today Brooke faces a different kind of scrutiny: that of being a “woman of a certain age.” And yet, for Brooke, the passage of time has brought freedom. At fifty-nine, she feels more comfortable in her skin, more empowered and confident than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Kleins. Now, in Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, she’s changing the narrative about women and aging.

At thirty-six, Naomi Watts had just completed filming King Kong and was trying to start a family when she was told that she was on the brink of menopause. It is estimated that seventy-five million women in the United States are currently dealing with menopause symptoms (dry itchy skin, raging hormones, night sweats), and yet the very word “menopause” continues to be associated with stigma and confusion. With so little information, many women feel unprepared, ashamed, and deeply alone when the time comes. This is the book Naomi Watts wishes she had when she first started experiencing symptoms.

So she added vodka to her recipe and used her earnings to upgrade herself to first-class on a family vacation—leaving her parents and siblings in coach. She moved to Los Angeles and got fired from her temp job when she admitted she didn’t know how to transfer calls. She’s played pickleball with the scions of an American dynasty. She’s sexted a governor. She shared psychedelics with strangers in Spain.

Nate Bargatze used to be a genius. That is, until the summer after seventh grade when he slipped, fell off a cliff, hit his head on a rock, and “my skull got, like, dented or something.” Before this accident, he dreamed of being “an electric engineer, or a doctor that does brain stuff, or a math teacher who teaches the hardest math on earth.” Afterwards, all he could do was stand-up comedy.* But the “brain stuff” industry’s loss is everyone else’s gain because Nate went on to become one of today’s top-grossing comedians, breaking both attendance and streaming records.

Historia
Before Anna Delvey, before the Tinder Swindler, there was Kari Ferrell. Adopted at a young age by a Mormon family in Utah, Kari struggled with questions of self-worth and identity as one of the few Asian Americans in her insulated community, leading her to run with the “bad crowd” in an effort to fit in. Soon, stealing from superstores turned into picking up men (and picking their pockets), and before she knew it, Kari had graduated from petty theft to Utah’s most wanted list. Though Kari was able to escape the Southwest, she couldn’t outrun her new moniker: the Hipster Grifter.

With her “thoughtful, smart, and funny” (Kirkus Reviews) writing, Heather recounts the humorous trysts, mishaps, and serendipitous success she’s found as a life-long reveler in all things indulgent. From illicit high school trips to Tijuana and awkward dates set up by her overzealous costars, Good Time Girl is a charming and intimate meditation on community, love, independence, womanhood, and—most importantly—second chances.

Love
We live in a time when our parents’ humanity is something we can be open about. It’s not only ok but sometimes we’re even encouraged to talk about those bits from our childhoods that at one time were kept under wraps. Even though these conversations are important, and treated with much sensitivity, it feels like we also need to keep the stories alive that remind us of the super powers our parents displayed as well as passed on to us. There’s a harmony to keeping both alive I guess. This is what Love Hewitt’s book has made me realize. In feeling the love she has for her mom inside the words of the narrative, I am reminded of my mom’s and my mom-in-law’s super powers—the parts of their humanities that are just extra special and have gifted my life with so much beauty.

incredibly valuable! Bringing the magic back !
she reminded me what it was like when I was a child and saw the world and magic differently. I saw magic everywhere then and now I only catch glimpses however am in awe when I witness it's beauty. Thank you for offering ways to bring that back!

Jennifer Love Hewitt is marvelously magical
She manages to make even the smallest details that most people would take for granted and makes it magical and that’s amazing to me. She may be a celebrity but she is also an everyday mom who works, cooks and cleans and makes everyday occurrences a little extra special. Yes she is definitely the “Holiday Junkie” but she also gives great mostly simple ideas to make things more exciting and special. The story is from the heart and her emotions while reading feels like you are having a workshop with her in the room while also talking to your best friend. The only downside is that there are recipes and written ideas that are not included in the Audible. I have followed her singing and acting career from when she was a kid on “Kids Incorporated” to her most recent show. Her smile and personality are infectious and I’m glad I gave this a chance. I would definitely recommend to any mom just trying to make it while still giving those magical moments to their kids.

not sure what I was expecting
I bought this audiobook after listening to a podcast when she spoke about her relationship with her mother and her grieving process. it wS a bit of an impulse buy to be honest. The book pretty much told the same story she did in the podcast with the addition of mommy how-tos to introduce "magic" into your children's lives by throwing themed parties and other family activities. Sorry to say, I was not impressed with the how-tos portion of it. I expected more story and philosophical discussion I guess, but how-tos are just not my thing. I feel like you could get similar ideas online or in a magazine-- and no need to buy the book at all.
