Original Premise in Highland Romance

I enjoyed the premise of this book very much: 5 children, one from a different clan, raised as brothers with the promise that each one would return to their clans as Lairds. This strategy was brilliant as it forged a bond and alliance between the brothers as each would support the others when needed. I especially enjoyed the banter between the brothers as it seemed genuine. Great first book in the series!

Too focused on sex for me

Literally 20 minutes into the book it went straight to sex talk. Too much too quick for me.

It’s a Familiar Story

This is another Highland romp. Names change, but mostly it’s the same. However, there was a disturbing nuance if one thinks too much about the theme. Most of these romances are merely vehicles to load up with raunchy sex scenes, This one is more so than others. It’s central theme was the sexual attraction between the leads (of course). If they weren’t thinking or talking about tupping, they were frustrated, anxious, curious or excited about it. Darrich is sort of lecherous. Caitlyn is of age, but she is written as though she is a much younger and innocent little Miss. The fabulous Rosalyn Landor voices her character accordingly and the end result is a bit of a creepster.

It’s like a comfortable old sweater. Great to listen to when you just want something relaxing.

Annoying MFC

The story was ok but Kaitlyn was so annoying. I don’t know how a man like him could have had any attraction to such an immature girl no matter how bonnie she was.

Sweetest male character ever

I loved this story. He was basically a dream guy. I had a lot of chuckles and now I’m looking forward to Lachlan’s story. Kaitlyn did get annoying at times, but not as annoying as most lead females that are too proud and difficult.

Weak and idiotic female protagonist.

I dislike Caitlin as a character, she is always acting so foolishly, with very little in redeeming qualities. I enjoyed the next three protagonists in this series much more. Amber, Maggie, and Deirdre have more strength and intelligence to round out their character. Throughout the series I enjoyed Rosalyn Landor’s narration.

Really enjoyed it

Detach was the perfect hero, who did want a wife after a previous betrayal. Then Caitlin came along and turned everything upside down. She was just what be needed.

Forget Jamie and Claire

My new favorite Highland couple and top five couple in a romance is Laird and Lady Darach McKenzie. The story doesn’t take nine books to tell. It didn’t need any elaborate plots of intrigue or sensational, triggering acts of sexual violence. Instead, Highland Promise is the story of a young Highland laird who rescues an innocent and beautiful miss from his enemy’s clutches. Caitlin thinks Darach is a angel when she awakes beaten and bruised from a drug induced sleep.

From the moment they interact, Darach finds it impossible to resist catering to her whims, and Caitlin finds her impulsiveness impossible to ignore. Instead of causing trouble because of selfishness or some ridiculous expression of feminine independence, all of her hijinks result from childish need to be helpful and be praised. Kindness instead of ego is a much better reason for a female character to be disagreeable or intractable. The entire story went down smooth. Had there been more action, I would have given it 5 stars, but without the main drama being shown instead of told, it’s a bit overly pedestrian.

Easy Listening

All the characters were great. There were times I had to laugh out loud. Some drama no angst. Enjoyable
