Growing up as a preacher's kid, Gifford had been submerged in Christian culture for decades when she uncovered the truth - that there were broken parts of her heart that weren't on friendly terms with the god who lived inside. Through disappointments and traumas, she had learned to guard her heart from God, keeping her angry, entrapped, and disconnected. As struggles and hardships continued, she finally learned to run toward her relationship with God when things got hard instead of running away from him like she had in the past. The more that she did this - building her heart's capacity for intimacy and deep relationship - the more her heart began to heal from the inside out. She teaches listeners to access the solution that's already living inside of them - the god who forever made their hearts a home.
When trials and tragedy hit our lives in a fallen world, our hearts can get smashed to bits, and we end up putting God on trial and blaming him for the mess. But Christa helps listeners understand that they don't have to live controlled by their circumstances - or angry with God. Instead, she provides powerful insight and practical steps to turn the painful fire that comes to destroy us into an unexpected friend that can produce our greatest healing.

These are just a few words to describe this book. It is full of truth, wisdom, and practical steps to take towards letting the Lord make your heart whole. Christa teaches us to embrace our pain, listen intently to our heart, and to stay connected with Jesus rather than block him from our pain. I can't say enough good things about this book! It's not hard to see that Christa shred her heart and soul on these pages so others might be healed. It's an amazing reminder of how God loves is with a unique, wonderful love! I can't wait to listen to it or read it again!

Raw, healing truth...
I have never read a book that led me so deeply into the recesses of my heart and exposed the roots of hurt and pain that resides there, and at the same time, revealed the truth of the Savior standing right there, ready to *love* me and my broken heart to wholeness. It's a masterpiece straight from the Master's heart.

Healing my broken heart...
Since I purchased the hardcopy I knew I wanted to hear CBG and about Goldie's gift 'anointed to heal the broken hearted' every day so I got an Audible subscription bc Goldie and her mom/dad/family are healing my broken, shattered heart, tiny piece by tiny piece. When I leave this earth, go to God I truly believe it will be w/a 'heart made whole', having grace and gratitude for my journey, every step of my way because of Goldie. Please put "God loves ugly" on Audible too. Thank You, God (CBG & Audible too!) for this precious gift You have given me ... forEva grateful. Besitos, Goldie!💕

Life Changing
This book has forever, and will continue to, change and impact my life. Wow! So thankful for this book. My broken heart so needed every word this book contains. I highly recommend!

Exactly What I Needed
Even though our struggles are not the same and our trauma isn't either. The way you shared your life paired with your relationship with Christ is helping me to heal. I am not one to express emotions, because I have been taught it is a sign of weakness as well as my personality does not give in to them easily.....however, when I heard you tell about Goldie's birth paired with my trauma.....I uncontrollably cried. When I heard about God giving you permission to feel and your experience with Him being there and sharing them with you....I could see Him with me as well. My journey to healing is on its way. And I am so thankful to all you have shared! So funny with all the terms you have used as well, because as I was talking to God, prior to starting your book, about my heart. He mentioned open heart surgery :).
