Moeller and Brand capture the spirit of adventure and epic heroism in this series. There are many ideas about magic, good/evil, knights and thieves, prophecies, etc that have been seen before, and some of the exposition sounds like a Dungeon Master explaining the rules, but the old ideas and the original story all fits together in an iconic swords-and-sorcery adventure. I like Moeller’s Child of the Ghosts series books a bit better, but this book was definitely worth the credit. Maybe even worth two credits.

Adventurer’s Delight

This book was an enjoyable listen but the character develop was somewhat shallow. The primary characters are rarely challenged but I’ll be interred to see how it is moving forward.

Enjoyed the book but a little simply

I liked the originality of the story and the characters/character development. I wished that it wasn't written with each chapter switching between the main storylines.

Enjoyable

The story is amazing. The references made and the lore throughout it very captivating to me. The only qualm I have is that there are a lot of names thrown around in the beginning and it makes it feel as though I’m missing so much context. But as the story develops it gets better .

Really good

I will start off by saying that I am enjoying the characters, the story line, the “mythology” of the world and the physical descriptions of the appearances of the characters as well as the settings where the action takes place.

Th difficulty I am having is the writers over use of one particular word. I think it is a combination of the use of this word, plus the way that the narrator says it.

The word is “said”. I think that the writer could have used many other synonyms that would have brought more depth to the scenes where lengthy conversations take place.

When listening to a long passage that is a conversation between two or more characters it becomes very tedious to have every sentence either preceded or followed with “John said” I don’t feel like the story flows as well with all the abrupt pauses after saying the word.

Possibly this would not bother me as much if I was reading it rather than listening. When reading, I find myself embellishing with other words for “said”

There are so many interesting words that will update work and make the descriptions of conversations. For example: exclaimed, cried, shouted, whispered, replied, commented. This is the reason that a Thesaurus exists!

I have been trying hard to finish this but…..

A fantastic tail and an amazing world of adventure. If you like sword and spells in you adventure you'll love this story

An amazing world

The author does a fair bit of jumping around, so if you get easily distracted or have trouble following a lot of Jumping, especially during high energy points, this is not the book for you. But if you can keep it, this fast paced series will keep you gripping your seat for what happens next. And I’m kind of impressed with the diversity, though I’d like it to be a bit better done.

Story jumps around a bunch

Not often does my skepticism turn to endorsement but such is the case now. Quite the series and full flare world building with a depth that is often lacking in the bubble gum fiction that tends to pass for modern day fantasy. I especially appreciated that the author spoke of the world and the past experiences of the main characters without tediously explaining every detail. That was a nice touch that offered a feeling of genuine realness to the story.

The character development and balance was superb and the storyline was unique and enthralling. Masterfully executed with only a few minor missteps. I'm hooked and will gladly purchase the remaining series

Surprisingly good

I don't generally get into books like this, kings and knights and all, but the author has drawn me in and I see getting at least the next title in this 8 book series. Rooting for the sheep and pig thief.
