Funny, to root for thieves

I won this audio book in a give-away. I had entered said give-away because I like fantasy stories, and because I enjoy Derek Perkins' narration. I've listened to many hours of another series narrated by Derek Perkins, and it is like listening to a friend now.

I really enjoyed the story. There are guilds (something I've always been fascinated with), there's magic, there's friendship, and betrayal,and, of course, there is a mystery to solve and probably the world to rescue.

Jack has to learn to work in a team, and at some point, he appreciates that the benefits are greater than his independence as a solo thief.

The characters are likable, the world is fascinating. The story had a nice closure but for the epilogue. Now I have to know how the story goes on. Unfortunately, the sequels aren't available as audio book yet.

I was happily listening to what I thought was a nice story when the plot grabbed me and held me strongly till the end. i listen to multiple books at once unless one is so compelling I can't switch to another. Doesn't happen often so I know that when it does I have a gem in my hand. hey

I was looking for my next adventure story and was not disappointed. From the first word to the last I’m hooked.

Better...

Derek Perkins doors a fantastic job bringing these characters to life; a job made easier by having good compelling characters to portray. this is some of Ben Hale's best work to date. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

What did you love best about Jack of Thieves?

The dialogue for Jack was so funny and witty I was surprised at how far it went. The story was well written and fun. There was never a slow moment in my opinion.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Totally, I had to find more things to do just to keep listening.

Fun and Engaging

I really enjoyed a number of other books about rogues and thieves (like The Lies of Locke Lamora) and this is now right up there near the top of my list. The protagonist has a good mix of cockiness and vulnerability and the story is unique enough that despite my dislike of genre mixing (slight spoiler sorry), I was still captivated. After listening to this one, I immediately went and bought the other two books in the series and was not disappointed.
