Regency widow Lily Adler is looking forward to spending the autumn away from the social whirl of London. When she arrives in Hampshire with her friends, the Carroways, she doesn’t expect much more than a quiet country visit and the chance to spend time with her charming new acquaintance, Matthew Spencer.
But something odd is afoot in the small country village. A ghost has taken up residence in the Belleford manor, a lady in grey who wanders the halls at night, weeping and wailing. Half the servants have left in terror, but the family seems delighted with the notoriety that their ghost provides. Intrigued by this spectral guest, Lily and her party immediately make plans to visit Belleford.
They arrive at the manor the next morning ready to be entertained—only to find that tragedy has struck. The matriarch of the family has just been found killed in her bed.
The dead woman’s family is convinced that the ghost is responsible. Lily is determined to learn the truth before another victim turns up—but could she be next in line for the Great Beyond?

Illusion
Lilly finds romance with Matthew while investing a murder. Ophilia and Lilly do not believe in th Gray Lady Ghost. Many people in the town and the mission believe in the Ghost. There are some new and some familiar characters Captain Jack goes off to sea and isn't there in the town to solving the murder. I found it a pleasure to listen throughout the week

Disappointing..!
My first poor review. If you are fan of good murder mystery, skip this book & the author. This story is like a soup opera. Also the first 3 hours of this plot was so confusing, by introducing characters with side line stories, that I totally lost the tread of the main story! Suffice to say there was a murder, and 4/5-th of the book was just extra, that didn’t have to be there.
However if you are into soup opera type story and have plenty of time, you’ll enjoy this book.
Note; the narrator was not good either, her tone was depressing, she needed some coffee to perk it up.

Too much unneeded information.
Too much 21st century issues forced into an early 19th century story. It didn’t need explaining or improve the story.
