More than surface level sci-fi

This is not a story set in a sci-fi setting, it's more like the classics where it takes your reality and explores would happen if X was introduced. The book did not only deal with both the immediate response and the long term effects but also a expanding viewpoint after the realization.
Another point on the book not beeing surface level: it feels like the world already exsists and we are just takeing a peek into it, knowing there is much more behind the veil.
The world feels realistic. I can see how this could have happened in reality.

The narrator did a good job portraying emotions through the robot voice but there were instances when there was lot of robot talk where it could get tedious.
Didn't like the begining but after that it keept me interested all the way through.

10/10 well done, would recomend.
Sequel plz

Good first attempt, but inconsistent

As many have said, character makes baffling choices and she acts as though she is younger than stated in the book. Tone is an issue and interpersonal problems seem trivial and boring when juxtaposed next to the greater story at hand. Some scenes really show potential, but are rare and insufficient to elevate the greater story

The story is great, and Ellis is amazing in all things, so why not science-fiction novels? I hate her.

No, but seriously- fantastic book. Unfortunately the main narrator reads like Kristen Stewart acts - or just is, in general. It makes for some notably frustrating pacing, but overall can't take away from the story-telling, which remains most excellent, dude.

twilight but with aliens

The writing was good, strong characters and a fun read. The storyline however became predictable very quickly- in that it followed the arc we all come to expect with yt novels of forbidden romances

I just finished listening. This is just what I wanted. A very fun, very beautiful story with dreams that drives the plot. I've been trudging through the dune series the last couple of years so this was an excellent change. Thanks.

A wonderful Ride

While the relatively slow paced reading by the performers was grating it is an easily remedied issue, as Audible allows us to speed up the audio. Asides from the slow pace the two narrators do a lively job, putting emotion and inflection into their reading perfectly.

As for the story itself I'm going to spoil anything asides from the fact that it is quite good, the pacing is mostly well done, and I was smiling like an idiot by the end. Some outcomes are predictable, as are certain hidden truths, but neither are any form of detriment to the quality of the storytelling. The satisfaction gained from having "solved" the implied mystery does well enough to replace any surprise based satisfaction by the revelations.

It also does a good job of leaving enough questions that your mind lingers on them and making you hope for a sequel. Which I very much am.

Grabs You by the Viscera and Holds on til the End

I am not a hard sci-fi fan, usually because most of it is too preachy and boringly judgmental of the human condition. This book, however, is not just an intelligent tale with something to say about people, it is EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT and culturally relevant. Lindsay Ellis is more that just a brilliant essayist and critic; she actually knows her craft. Axiom's End is an engaging tale of first contact that gives both the cerebral and lizard parts of our brains plenty to chew on. A+ all the way!

Mostly very good

Listening to Axiom’s End is like reading Liu Cixin while watching Flight of the Navigator.

Gripping!

Gripping from beginning to end - a really cool take on what first contact might be like. Really detailed and beautiful character development. I loved it!
