The Prometheus Initiative was a failsafe for civilization: a secret corps of Engineers, Soldiers, Scientists and other experts, preserved in stasis by technology even they don't understand. Guided from Majestic 12, their hidden command center, they were to rebuild civilization in the event of global catastrophe. But amid world wide disaster, something went wrong. Now, a single Initiative Team find themselves lost in the post-apocalyptic wilderness a century in the future. They must deal with slavers, bandits, mutants and scattered survivors to whom the 21st century is only legend. They must find some clue as to the fate of Majestic 12 and if any other Initiative teams survived. Worse, they find themselves caught in the middle of a war, between a conquering civilization built on privilege and greed, and a city-state built around one last college, trying to preserve the knowledge of the past. Can one small team of soldiers, loners, outcasts and idealists save this last outpost of civilization? Or will they only doom themselves in a lost cause, battling against a force which has preserved all the worst aspects of 21st century civilization? Among the team are: Team Leader Joseph (Cobra Joe) McRadey: A ruthless killer, this ex-mercenary secretly looks for redemption for his many past sins. Team Second Mark Lock: A veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan who has somehow kept the shreds of his youthful idealism. A man who wants to save the world. Darlene Townsend: A bible-toting Ordnance expert who spent a career sending her pilots off to combat. Now she must go into combat herself, with only her faith in a higher purpose to sustain her. Annie Chen: Team sniper. Brought up to be a good little chinese/american wife, until life betrayed her. Now she is working out a new life- and working out some grudges while she's at it. Darnell Simms: Young, cocky and insubordinate, a rebel who would never admit that being part of a team, on an important mission, is the only place where he feels that he really belongs. Mark "the Wall" Vanderwahl: Eager to prove himself, a happy warrior who loves anything that can be made to explode. His smile conceals his own desire to atone for past sins.
