Strong Start but Slow Going

This had an interesting but not original start to it, which reminded me a bit of Ascension of a Bookworm. We spend this book with the MC having the mind of an adult but a baby's body at first, growing to... I think four. Fortunately she can talk at birth, so we don't have lots of chapters of passive observation. Overall, I liked the book and it held my interest, but unfortunately most of that interest is in finding out answers to questions that are very hamfistedly held back from us by the author. I also felt the world building was kind of slapdash, like the author really didn't consider things properly. That's not to say that the world isn't fleshed out, because dear Lord, the story moves along at a snails pace in a very slice of life fashion so we get plenty of details and flavor. I didn't mind that so much except, like I said, the interesting parts of the story are withheld from us so as a reader I couldn't help but to become impatient. Finally, towards the end of the book we start to get answers which aren't that revolutionary after all and we are left wondering why the hell they were written as such big secrets to begin with. It's just bad writing, or at least super annoying and contrived writing. Part of me wants to continue the series but another part of me does not want to be further annoyed, hense my three star rating, which is what I give books that I'm on the fence about. I think it was worth reading and I did like it, but I also think the author could have done better.

A utopian look into a fantasy world up

I love a good fantasy story and this one hits all the marks for me. It’s a fantastical odyssey into a wonderfully fictional world well beyond our imagination. Anessa, the lead character, is likable on many levels. We are awarded the chance to get to know her from the moment of her birth to early childhood.While physically she is a child, she is mindfully an adult , and the narrator easily makes this distinction clear. It is amusing to hear Anessa’s adult like communication from a child’s voice. The other characters are well rounded and each has a distinct purpose to the story. I am looking forward to seeing where the next step in Anessa’s journey leads her.
