Historia
Ax is an Andalite, an alien, stranded on a strange planet he's sworn to defend, even though it's not his own. Since the Animorphs rescued him, he's fought at their side, and in that time they've come to consider Ax a friend. But deep inside, Ax knows he isn't their friend. He can't ever be. Andalites must always hold themselves apart, even from their allies. As the Animorphs' past actions start resulting in deaths of innocent people, however, Ax's loyalty is called into question. Now he must decide whether to reveal the reason for his estrangement - the shameful secret of his people.

Ax!
Revisado: 05-26-20
Given the performances the narrators for 5 and 6 gave for Ax I was concerned that Verner's take would sound like a hammy middle-aged man, but I'm glad my fears were unfounded! All his voices were on point, I especially like the breeziness of his Tobias! I do wonder why those two other narrators are so off-base, and I hope Verner will get to voice Ax again. He and Crouch kinda got the short end of the stick with this run.
Aaah, these kids reconciling at the end. So young, so hopeful, not yet crushed by the war or disillusioned by the Andalites.

Historia
When Marco runs into his old friend Erek, he doesn't think too much of it. He's got more important things to do, like helping to save the world. But then Marco finds out Erek's been hanging with some of the kids at the Sharing, and he starts to think that something just a little weird is going on. So Marco, Jake, and Ax decide to morph and check old Erek out. Just to see if he's been infested with a Yeerk. The good news is that Erek's not a human-Controller. The bad news is that Erek's not even human.

oh, Marco
Revisado: 05-26-20
I'll admit Marco is not my favorite Animorph, but de Ocampo voices him with such humanity I find myself enjoying the character more. Marco's got a lot of these kind of horrific realization moments whenever he has to consider the situation with his mom and it's so compelling!
I dearly hope this isn't the end of animorphs audiobooks, I'd gladly buy more. Performance is down a star because it's still weird to have Ax voiced like a boisterous forty-year-old.
also you got a typo there with 'Animporhs' btw.

Historia
There's something pretty weird going on in the woods behind Cassie's house, the place where Ax and Tobias call home. It seems the Yeerks have figured out one very important fact: Andalites cannot survive without a feeding ground. Visser Three knows the "Andalite bandits" don't feed where he does, so there can only be one other place. Now the Animorphs have to figure out a way to stop a bogus logging operation. Because if Visser Three finds Ax in the woods, nothing will stop him from finding the Animorphs.

An even better book than I remembered it being
Revisado: 05-26-20
I'm a long time Animorphs fan who's read a lot of the books an awful lot of times, but it's been a while since I revisited this one and I'm glad it's even better than I recalled. It's funny the things I didn't notice at eleven.
Johnson's Cassie in 4 was more mystical and removed from the situation, and I love her portraying the character's struggles and doubts here. It's hard to be a good person in a chaotic and violent world.

Elephant police!
Revisado: 05-26-20
This is far enough along to have left behind some of the awkwardness of the early books and gotten into the swing of the best parts of the series. Ellet's such a great Rachel, really portraying her toughness and inner fears and doubts while also being able to play fully into the silly aspects too.
I'm also so glad Ellet's Ax voice isn't like a pompous forty-year-old! She does a real nice job in general. I heard her on the Animorphology podcast and I've been slowly writing reviews since.

Historia
It was bad when Jake found out his brother was one of them. A Human-Controller. A slave. But that was nothing compared to this. When the Animorphs decide to visit the Yeerks' new base, it seems simple. But then they get caught, and Jake falls - just for a moment - into the Yeerk pool. Now they're out, and his friends can't see it. To them, he's just like normal. But Jake is screaming for help. His worst fear has finally come true. He's become the enemy.

That last third!
Revisado: 04-07-20
The best part of this book is the final third, where poor Jake gets to experience infestation. I often wish it was more of the book, but maybe that would've been too overwhelming. The competence these kids show when their leader is incapacitated is very fun.
Still weird to have the Ax voice sound so old and pompous, but I really liked the rest.

Historia
Marco never wanted to be an Animorph. He didn't want the ability to change into any animal he touches. And he certainly didn't want to be one of a handful of kids that are the planet's only defense against a secret alien army. His friends know why he feels the way he does. He's worried about his dad - the only family Marco has left. If anything happens to him, his father will be alone. But something big is about to change for Marco. Something that could finally give him a reason to fight.

the first book where the title makes no sense
Revisado: 04-07-20
It's kind of a tradition how some of these titles are so disconnected from the story! My understanding is Applegate had no control over that.
The ant sequence is still a nightmare that I enjoy greatly, and the twist at the end remains very messed up and fun.
It's weird how Ocampo's Ax voice sounds so Dan Green, like a pompous, boisterous older adult, when in this book he's very much a child messing up and is even called out as being 'a little one'. Given how he's voiced in other books I suppose that's just the angle this series is taking?

Historia
It all started with the dreams. But Cassie didn't pay much attention to them. She and her friends have been having nightmares ever since they acquired the power to morph. But when Cassie discovers that Tobias has been having dreams too - the exact same dreams - about the ocean, and a voice that's calling to them for help, she decides it's time to start listening. Now, she and the others have to figure out if the dreams are a message, or a trap.

Revisado: 04-07-20
The first of the books the Animorphs spent in the ocean! Possibly the best of them, for all that it's kind of more in the fantasy genre. Psychic whales!
I really love Johnson's voice acting here. She brings this wondering tone that I think really enhances the material.

When Tobias and his friends were given the power to morph, they were also given an important warning: Never stay in a morph for more than two hours. But Tobias broke the time limit, and now he's trapped in the body of a hawk - forever. When he discovers an important Yeerk secret, Tobias knows he has to do everything in his power to destroy it. But to do so, he'll have to contend with a part of himself that's wrestling for control. A part that isn't human.

Emohawk lives
Revisado: 04-07-20
Tobias's narration can get pretty extreme but I think it's most understandably so here, even as it's at its most extreme. I wish he and Ax had been as regular in the rotation of books as the other kids.
Michael Crouch might be my favorite narrator so far. Oh, man, what if he voiced the Andalite Chronicles? If it was one of the established narrators it'd have to be either him or Ax's.

Historia
Rachel is still reeling from the news that the Earth is secretly under attack by parasitic aliens known as the Yeerks. And that she and her friends - five kids who, purely by chance, stumbled onto a downed spacecraft and were given the power to morph into any animal they touch - are the planet's only defense. But Rachel's always been something of a daredevil. So when it's suggested that they infiltrate the home of their assistant principal, Mr. Chapman, who also happens to be a human host of the Yeerks, she volunteers. But what she finds inside may be more than even she can handle.

Still good after all this time
Revisado: 04-07-20
Bits of this don't age so well, like how a random adult man trying to abduct a thirteen-year-old is handled and regarded by the cast. But I can really overlook that. Emily's such a good narrator! I love her character voices.
There's something about the earliest books, before Applegate really found her rhythm and before all the kids defaulted to roach and fly morph to sneak into everything, that's really charming.

Nostalgia bomb
Revisado: 04-07-20
In a lot of ways, these still hold up. This was the series that really taught me to love reading, that tuned me to this exact balance of angst and comedy. Animorphs is so good! When I heard about these, I preordered the whole set at once, and I'd do that with more of the series if it comes out.
I think this particular narrator has a weird Tobias voice but I love the way he voices the narration when Jake's in morph.
