Historia
When sworn protectors of Earth, the Justice Platoon, are all horribly killed, their former arch-enemies come crawling out of the woodwork. Outnumbered, outgunned, and out of options, the US government has no choice but to activate the Sidekicks Initiative, dragging the Platoon's middle-aged ex-sidekicks out of retirement. Now these three reluctant, out of shape former child-wonders must work together to stop the rising tide of supervillainy, avenge their former mentors' deaths, and bring the world back from the brink of destruction.

where to begin?
Revisado: 04-11-25
this story was bad. I don't know whether to hate the author more or the people who reviewed this book and thought it was a great idea. I do enjoy antiheroes. but this anti-hero completely takes the Cake for making us wait half the book just to find out what his power is. and then whining about is power for the remainder of the book minus the last seven pages where he's suddenly awesome. the whiny self-doubt and self-loathing goes on and on and on and on!
admittedly the narrator was absolutely fantastic with the material he had to work with.

Historia
In an alien city torn apart by crooked cops and ruthless criminals, private detective Dan Deadman specializes in cases unusual and bizarre. Sure, he doesn't smell great, and he's technically been dead for quite some time, but if you've got a rampaging Hell-beast tearing up your street, or a portal to another dimension appearing in your bathroom, Dan's your man. After saving a mysterious young woman named Ollie from the clutches of something big, slimy, and unpleasant, Dan gets entangled in a missing child case.

it was a story sort of
Revisado: 03-10-25
Well the world building probably has good bone. I mean, there are off side references to them.
the main character remains an enigma to the end. The hard-boiled detective who's secretly empathetic. but it's not done well enough for us to find him a sympathetic MC. The female token sidekick is stupid enough to drag down the story all by herself. But fortunately she has the MC's help.
I suppose if you are trapped in a hospital ICU with nothing else I might make this the 30th or so book recommendation.

Historia
Five gods are born into a world of absolute nothingness and have but one task to complete–build. Each of them have their own special powers and talents which they lend toward this effort, but before long, darkness takes root within the world that they construct. The gods struggle against their enemy throughout the ages and despite all of their power, they find that evil is a cunning opponent which comes in many forms. They care for the world as it grows to new heights and serve as champions for the people that live within it.

Juvenile writing of illogical simple gods & happening
Revisado: 01-26-25
I wrote a story like this when I was 13. It also wasn't a good story, just like this one. It was simplistic, naive, and had illogical choices and expectations. the gods know things and do things but they don't know how because the author can't figure out how to make it fit into the story. The bad God is a basic simplistic evil.
the audiobook is red slowly and lightly as if to second graders in their Sunday school.
It appears self-published Kindle books are rated on a different scale than professionally edited books. NDF and seriously regret the moments I spent on this book.

Historia
When Yao Shen, Patriarch of the Heavenly Sky Sect, ascends and regains memories of his past life on Planet Earth, he realizes that he can no longer allow himself to accept the cruel and violent ways of Eliria, the realm of cultivation. So he decides to change it. It was time to found a new sect. One based on the values of honor and equality over senseless violence and discrimination. A sect where all, from the mortal farmer’s son to a sect elder's daughter, were held accountable to the same rules.

I really tried but DNF.
Dull and formulaic description of how the MC does all the things. No emotion except the sterile description of surprise of others in the story as the MC does their thing. All challenges are blandly detailed and effortlessly handled.

Historia
Benjamin, Mark, and Chloe were all set to graduate college in a few weeks. Ben had ordered a strange object from eBay to use as cover art for a book he was writing. It looked really cool, like a slightly charred old military artifact from 70 years ago. It was possibly part of an engine. After cleaning it up (it was found in a cow field), he placed the strange device on his dorm room desk directly over the wireless charging port. That woke it up. Unknown to him, the disabled starship hiding on the moon could now communicate with the missing part. The ship needed two things: 1) The missing ...

Revisado: 09-14-24
the hero is incredibly unobservant and naive. it makes it very hard to believe that they have such intelligence and smart as their history implies.
the epilogue implies so many different characters that the hero will eventually be entangled with but the incredible shortness and simplicity of this story makes me think it's a setup for a series of 30 books.

Historia
Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

Great story and not as Harry Potter or progression focused as I feared. The Performer's laughs though got obnoxious quickly and I became dreading them by half way through the book.

Too long, slow, and ridiculous for any child
Revisado: 10-01-22
Is this what happens when people self-publish fairy tales?
when your 5-year-old continuously asks "Why would they ever do that?" and your only answer can be, because otherwise the story would end in the next 2 minutes and make more sense.
And then the story ends but the author will not shut up. they keep going on because it hasn't been made sweet enough yet. and on and on!
