About this listen

Storm Ellison is the sexiest man on two legs. The gorgeous young star of Trapped on an Island, the hottest reality show on television, is instantly recognizable the moment he leaves his palatial mansion. Paparazzi follow him everywhere, leaving him no peace or privacy, selling his pictures to the tabloids, and cementing his reputation in the press as a slutty gay playboy. As Storm prepares to sign his first major movie deal, his manager decides he needs protection. What he doesn't expect, is to be attracted to the cold bastard who's now running his life.

Balthazar Grant, freelance bodyguard, is a huge, handsome, rough and ready former marine, trained by the best, and willing to step between Storm and anyone stupid enough to come at him. Always stoic and serious, Taz lends a deadly presence to Storm's entourage whenever he ventures out in public. Storm doesn't want a bodyguard, much less one who won't let him live his fast and loose lifestyle with impunity, and he's certainly not one to be dictated to by an overconfident marine who has opinions about everything, including who he should hook-up with.

When a deadly threat hits Storm's world, he's suddenly living his own reality show, only this one has an outcome which doesn't involve being voted off an island. Will Storm wake up before it's too late and will Taz be able to fight his attraction to the handsome young superstar while trying to convince him he's in very real danger? The pair will soon learn that reality is stranger than fiction.

A sweet love story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Superstar to be better than the print version?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was not given the opportunity to review a print version, so I have no basis for comparison.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Superstar?

This story has a good story line, a sweet love story, and a decent plot. The MCs are easy to like, and there are very few secondary characters. There is a bit of action toward the beginning of the book, but then the actual "story line/plot" doesn't pick back up until toward the end. Now, of course there is reference to what is going on throughout the book, but the bulk of the story is devoted to the MC's rapidly developing romance. The thing that stood out for me with this book was that it had me laughing out loud several times, and I don't find that as often as I might like.

I found the references to author/director G. A. Hauser great, and she even had a bit part in the story.

What does Jonathan Young bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jonathan Young does really well with the characters' voices. The secondary characters that have accents seemed a bit strained in places, but overall, the conversations were well done. The only comment I have is that throughout the story when it was not conversation, he seemed to make everything sound breathy/erotic. There were times when it sounded normal, and that was really nice. I know this was a steamy book, and the love scenes were well done, but I would have enjoyed the story more if much of the reading didn't sound like a love scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I probably would have read it in one sitting if I had had the time. It did not seem to be an extremely long book. But, it took a while to listen to. I did listen to it in a couple of days, so it kept my attention once I got into the story.

Great listen

Beautiful.
Enjoyed every nuke and cranny, every morsel, every inch of every word in this book.
Although there were some moments where screaming at the characters were warranted.
Rebecca, wow so hilarious, especially coming on to the last few chapters.

Thank you Patricia Logan for your fantastic words.

Enjoyable

4 star story. 5 star narration!!

A really good narrator can bring a story to life and make it a really enjoyable experience for the listener and of course that was the case with this book.

I hadn't come across this author before and so I was a bit wary about whether I would enjoy it or not but I shouldn't have worried. The story was actually quite good (four stars) and the narrator was excellent (five stars).

And the story was very entertaining - serious in places, amusing in others and totally engaging from beginning to end.

Storm is a young, gay TV star whose fame is rising. His agent employs a body guard, Taz, to protect Storm from his growing numbers of well meaning fans, stalkers and other threats.

Despite his popularity and fame Storm has insecurities and difficulties of his own that are not seen by his adoring fans and Storm is also deeply attracted to Taz.

Taz is a highly professional body guard and thinks that Storm is just another spoilt, promiscuous playboy but as he gets to know Storm he begins to see the beautiful loving man beneath the glittering facade and he begins to struggle with his own attraction to Storm.

This is an enjoyable bodyguard love story with a frisson of mystery within, with entertaining drama and some fabulous characters. The narrator did an excellent job and each character sounds very different and their different personalities are made real for the listener. The narration drew me into the story, made it interesting and also brought the story to life.

I didn't feel that the story was too long and I didn't get bored either. I generally find that some sex scenes can become tedious but with this narration they simply became part of the story.

I thought the mystery part of the story was a bit obvious but this didn't detract from my listening pleasure.

All in all this is a lovely story and a really lovely audiobook!

Hot M/M Romantic Suspense

Storm is a sexy attractive gay film star and Taz is his new Body Guard. Storm is a really nice guy and very naive and trusting. He's also an orphan who's lost his adopted parents so he is alone in the world. He does have one very close friend Jules as well as motherly housekeeper.

There is an attraction between Storm and Taz, which Taz fights as he tries to remain professional. Slowly the professional wall begins to crumble and Taz and Storm compliment each other as a couple. There are some very hot and loving sex scenes. There is also a bad guy who is using Storm.

I thought the story was pretty good with a good climax. It was also erotic, well narrated and performed.

I liked it

The love story was just so so but the characters were somewhat different than other characters in the same situations.

The Superstar

The Superstar is Book 1 in Patricia Logan's The Marine Bodyguards series. Storm is a celebrity that got his break on a reality tv show and is seen as an upcoming star. He's out and parties his way through his days with many different men and not always in a safe way. Storm is attracted to his bodyguard and seems to think that the best way to get his attention is by going off with random men, regardless of safety issues, even putting Taz's safety at risk. Taz takes his position seriously and regardless of his attraction to Storm, isn't going to put his safety on the line. Taz has his work cut out for him because even though Storm thinks he's a man of this world, he's naive and easily taken in by other's, even with the most ridiculous of stories.

I felt sorry for Taz through most of this story. He took his job seriously, and did what he needed to protect Storm, but good grief, Storm was so immature. I did question Taz's taste in his attraction to Storm, but even the best people have terrible taste. But, as the story went along and Storm managed to mature, I was able to think of him as something other than a willful child that needed a timeout. Taz and Storm's relationship is very, very slow going and they definitely have to work for it. Or, more like Taz has to finally give into his attraction. I enjoyed Storm's best friend in the story. She was not the typical shrewish, hateful best friend in many MM stories and that was a nice change of pace!

The narrator is Johnathan Young and I thought he did a good job. He has an easy to listen to voice, keeps a good pace, was able to provide emotions and distinctive voices for the characters. There were no long or odd pauses during his narration and he allowed the focus to be on the characters and story to be told. The narrator did a great job of bringing this story to life.

For those who care, there is sex on page with Storm and men not Taz. This happened before Taz and Storm became more, so it's not a big deal for me, but I know this bothers others. There's some mystery in this story, but honestly, the only person who didn't know the bad guy is a bad guy is Storm. Overall, this was an enjoyable story to listen to!

Sexy but Predictable.

Unfortunately, I found this to be a mediocre story. There was really no mystery regarding who the ‘big bad’ was and the outcome was predictable. I had a difficult time warming up to Storm. His actions in the beginning were petty, especially when trying to make Taz jealous and he frequently put himself in bad situations. He turned himself around during the second half of the book and I did come to like him. I had no trouble liking Taz. He is all Alpha male, huge, strong and sexy as hell. This was an extremely slow burn but when the men finally got together they were burning up the sheets! The sex was very hot and it helped carry the second half of the story and I will credit Jonathan Young’s narration for that.
