About this listen

An MM romance story of survival, healing, and finding the courage to love.

Harper Reid has no money and nowhere to go, but he can't spend one more day under the same roof as his abusive boyfriend. Desperate to start fresh, he takes on a special case through the caregiver agency that contracts him. The client has fired everyone else, but this job includes lodging, so Harper will find a way to make it work until he's back on his feet.

High-flying, eccentric Riley Davenport has lost his sight, effectively clipping the vivacious man's wings. Learning to navigate in darkness is difficult enough without being treated like a house plant by his girlfriend, parents, and friends. The last thing he needs is another pushy caregiver, hovering over him curtailing the last of his freedom.

But Harper Reid is different...very different. Nervous, quiet, reserved. It's almost like Harper has secrets and is the one who needs to be taught how to live again. And why does he smell like sugar cookies? Men aren't supposed to smell delicious.

Trigger warnings: off-screen domestic abuse, adult language, explicit consensual sexual content.

These are narrators I already follow - they are both EXCELLENT! And while this is the first Diana Roman book I've heard, I'm right now off to explore the rest of her titles!

So good I'll give another listen!

I've listened to a lot of romance novels from all different plot lines /tropes in the last 12 mon since using this app and I'm pretty sure this one is my favorite so far. This was a blind purchase (no pun intended) but it's one of my favorites in my audiobook collection. I laughed, cried, and was deeply moved. Beautiful characters were portrayed in a heart felt moments that made them bigger than life. I love a story that gives me all the feels and story line effort kept me engaged. Absolutely worth the time.

Such raw and beautiful emotions! Incredibly narrated and expertly written! Being a survivor of domestic abuse, it is my hope that others find solace and their way back to living.

A feel good book with ups and downs! Great narration! First time for this author and definitely not my last.

Love the Narrators

I really enjoyed this story, and I thought both narrators were fantastic. Just the right mix of drama, humor, and sweetness; and I appreciated the intentional focus on survival and healing, rather than dwelling on the trauma of abuse. Great read!

Sweet story, superbly acted!

The juxtaposition of the confident Riley and the defeated Harper set the stage for an epic love story. As the story develops, it's the vulnerability of both characters that have you rooting for their happily ever after.

Captivating characters

Both heavy stuff and funny stuff. Two survivors finding themselves and each other (and Larry of course). I always love when authors don’t just get fixed on the main characters but also make side characters interesting. Amazing narration by Greg and Iggy.

Heartwarming

This audio got recommended to me and it was even better than I expected. I adored Harp and Riley both as standalone characters and as strangers/caregiver to friends to being a couple. This is an enjoyable story but it is not fluff, some difficult themes are handled deftly. It is the character interaction, the humor and banter, so expertly performed by both Iggy Toma and Greg Boudreaux, that made this a 5-star listen. There is some angst, so review the trigger warnings, but ultimately I spent much of my listening time smiling. Riley, with sidekick Larry (Eisenhower, Boomer, Marlon... Lol) and Harp were just what each other needed. Definitely worth a credit, happy I found this author and that there is a book 2 already out in audio (yes I immediately grabbed it after finishing this book).

Still Smiling Over This One

This was my first read of Dianna Roman. Put me at the head of her fan club. Incredible talent here. Loved every minute. I found myself checking the chapter list at one point hoping it wouldn’t end soon. The story is funny and exciting , passionate and transformative. To me, a romance book grips me when the author brings me into a life or profession that I knew nothing about and doesn’t substitute gratuitous sex for plot. I learned so much from this one. I would rate this book as one of the very best ever written; along with HIM by Sarina Bowen, BETWEEN THESE SHEETS by Devon McCormack and the BROKEN PIECES trilogy by Riley Hart. The narration was perfection in this book with the two well known voices, Greg Boudreaux and Iggy Toma.

One of the best of the best
