Publisher's summary
When a nerdy drummer meets an attractive bodyguard, secrets threaten to unravel not only their families, but their futures.
Gabe Johnson
In the world of pop-punk and nerdom, I'm the drummer that defies stereotypes.
I strive to be the perfect son my wealthy father demands and being gay doesn't equate.
When a striking, muscled bodyguard is thrown into my life to protect me from mobsters, can I keep my secret or fall victim to my heart?
Jeremy Sweet
I'm racing up the ladder in Gabe's father's law firm and he's entrusted me to safeguard his son.
As I dive deep into Gabe's world and even share his bedroom, the lines between obligation and desire blur. With my own questioning swirling inside me, how can I find out if Gabe's queer?
As the gangsters motives unravel, it becomes clear that the future peace of Gabe's family and my career are at stake. Can we fix this mess together?
Protect My Heart is the fifth book in the Rock U series and is part of the Mesa Boys universe. This novel features a nerdy law student falling for his jock of a bodyguard amongst a bisexual awakening, forced proximity and a backdrop of a shady scheme. It guarantees an HEA and has no cliffhangers. It features a rich boy with daddy issues, and a man whos questioning himself. Each book features a different couple and can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.
Trigger warning: This book contains themes of prejudice by a parent and a deceased parent. It also contains mention of a previous suicide attempt.

Bi awakening bodyguard
Protect my heart was the 5th book in the series and a great addition at that. Jeremy’s father hires a bodyguard to watch after him. Gabe becomes his bodyguard and moves into Jeremy’s bedroom with him. Jeremy has a bi awakening moment and crosses the line from bodyguard to boyfriend. Everything happens really quick and was a little anti climatic. I do love all the band members that became family. Can’t wait for the next book!

Sweet protective Jeremy and Gabe
Another band member from Rock U finds his forever. This time it's Gabe, and what a sweet bi-awakening bodyguard romance. I didn't find the stalking and extortion storyline that compelling, but the romance and close friendships more than made up for that. These guys are family now and I can't wait to here Milo's story.

The Drummer and The Lawyer!
This bodyguard romance is young and fresh. The dynamic here really clicked for me. I liked that although Gabe is a rockstar drummer he is actually super intelligent, and a law student and that Jeremy is not just a bodyguard but one that is already a lawyer. He just so happens to be a muscley one! Jeremy has never been attracted to a guy until he sets eyes on Gabe. This made it amusing to have him living with the entire band. I love how vivid the descriptions of the guys are, Yes, there is a threat from the mob, but I enjoyed that the focus was the amazing chemistry between Gabe and Jeremy. It was nice to see each of them coming to terms with different parts of themselves while falling for each. Two super likable guys and plenty of nice spice here too! Finnley Cole's narration definitely brought out the visuals and the personalities.

All Love 💕
First— I LOVE Gabe’s band! They are all so good natured and funny. I like that they take jabs at Gabe’s expense and chime in at the best times!
I love how entranced Jeremy is with Gabe just by being close to him. It’s like he has never seen a man before. Jeremy definitely gives “gay for you” vibes!
I love the push and pull tension between Gabe and Jeremy. It’s this attraction that they don’t want to want, but is there just under their skin and it’s so hard to ignore.
The narrator díd awesome— I got a smidge lost in some of the dialogue between characters, the narrator uses very similar voices for both of them so it was a bit hard to tell who said what. I just went back and re listened and i could figure it out.

Gabe and Jeremy

Gabe is unhappy that his father is sending a bodyguard to protect him until Jeremy appears on Gabe's doorstep looking like Superman.
Gabe and Jeremy's journey was anti-climactic for me. They went from growly with each other to forever in the blink of an eye with the "suspense" part giving me the sad trumpet "wah, wah, wah" feeling.
I am unsure if it was the story or Finnley Cole's "one-note" narration of this one that had me struggling the most. I am torn whether to continue the series or not but at the same time, I feel like I need to complete the band's stories at this point.

Gabe's fear and disdain of his father
Gabe's father was harsh, but also misunderstood. The fear and disdain Gabe had for his father was sad to read. Gabe only saw his father as he did when he was a child and that fear grew with him. Jeremy, on the other hand saw the professional version of Gabe's father. He saw him as a surrogate father and a generous mentor. Only when Gabe and Jeremy were summoned together did Jeremy see the side Gabe talked about and Gabe finally was able to gain closure over old wounds. I enjoyed reading about the different sides to Gabe's father and seeing their relationship heal and mend.

So good!!
I'm a sucker for a bodyguard romance and this one did not disappoint! Gabe is just trying to get through law school while avoiding his dad and playing drums in his band. Jeremy just wants to make enough money to cover his student loans and go back to school to become a lawyer. When they're thrown together after Gabe's dad gets threats and wants a bodyguard for his son, everything about what they thought they knew of themselves and life changes completely. The narrator did such a good job bringing both Gabe and Jeremy to life! Such a good book and I cannot wait for the next in the series!!

Gabe and Jeremy Bi-awakening Bodyguard
I'm writing my ALC for "Protect my heart" by Christie Gordon...
I love the Rock U series!!! Christie Gordon has done an AMAZING job with all her books, while Finnley Cole has done wonderful work bringing her stories to life.
Gabe is a college student and drummer for Knot Me. Jeremy works for Gabes dad at his law firm. When Gabes dad receives threats due to one of his cases he hires Jeremy to be Gabes bodyguard. Jeremy who always thought he was straight has an instant attraction towards Gabe, while Gabe is skeptical of Jeremy (at the beginning) outing him as a gay man. Getting over a couple of hurdles they come together to make a beautiful couple. This is a sweet and heartfelt story. Thank you Christie, you've out done yourself once again.

Love narration on this series!
Another fantastic job by the narrator bringing these characters to life. The changes in Gabe's life due to Jeremy are fantastic. How they learn to trust one another and grow individually and together made such a great story.
