UnMuted Love - Episode 34: Ce Eshelman interviews Ginger Healy, the Director of the Attachment and Trauma Network (ATN), a parent-created national organization supporting traumatized children and their parents. In 1995 three mothers who were parenting children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder met to support one another only to find how similar their journeys were and that they truly were “Not Alone,” ATN was born. Ginger is an incredible champion of parents of children from difficult beginnings all over the country. The mission of ATN could not be more aligned with Ce's mission at The Attach Place and in the Love Matters Parenting Society Therapeutic Parent Program. These are ATN's posted beliefs that resonate deeply with Ce, as every day she walks the same path with the same beliefs:We BelieveWe believe that children impacted by trauma and those with attachment disorders can heal.We believe that parents, who are supported and taught therapeutic parenting, are the best healing agents of their traumatized child. We believe that children impacted by trauma need trauma-informed, attachment-focused therapies. We believe that all children learn best in trauma-sensitive schools where strategies are in place to help the children and adults feel safe, stay regulated, get connected, and not be re-traumatized or triggered. We believe trauma-informing schools empower trauma-responsive educators. We believe that providing resources to the families from the start is the best way to minimize crises and promote healing. We believe that ongoing peer-to-peer support is critical to empowering caregivers and communities with strategies, resources, and strength to persevere daily. We believe that “touching trauma at its heart” is more than a tagline, it’s a healing mission. From Ce Eshelman:Are you searching for a community of parents who will get you; who offer an attentive ear and open arms in the worst of times; who give you a standing ovation for the monumentally big "small steps" forward you make with your child? It is so painful to walk the jagged trail of this parenting journey alone and no one is ever alone in the Love Matters Parenting Society Therapeutic Parent Program. You will feel seen, understood, and actually deeply cared for. We know it as "love."
