The Penn State Nittany Lions had chances but once again fell to Ohio State on Saturday, 20-13. Today on the BWI Live Show, we discuss the game, the reaction on Monday from head coach James Franklin, and where the team goes from here. Join us live at 10 a.m. on YouTube or catch the replay on our channel, website, or wherever you get your podcasts. We'll be answering questions from fans throughout the show.

Penn State hosts massive contingent of recruits, get commitment

Before we dive headfirst into Penn State's issues against Ohio State, we first take a moment to review the latest recruiting news from this past weekend. The team hosted over 100 prospects for the game on Saturday despite its noon kick. Recruiting expert Sean Fitz discusses the team's efforts to flip targets committed to other programs.

Penn State also got a boost from a commitment before the game on Saturday. We'll review what safety Matt Sieg brings to the Nittany Lions for the Class of 2026 and what his commitment means for the program's efforts to restock the safety position after injury and transfers this past season.

Between the Lines, Ohio State game recap with James Franklin

Franklin and the Penn State program hosted its weekly Monday press conference at Beaver Stadium to kick off White Out week against Washington. However, all of the questions yesterday dealt with the team's loss to the Buckeyes on Saturday. We'll dive into the meaningful conversation about the team's loss and specifically highlight Penn State's offensive struggles in big games.

Reporter Nate Bauer has a better read of what Franklin means when he speaks than anyone on the Penn State football beat. He'll interpret what Franklin meant when discussing his team, staff, and performance from Monday.

Today, we'll focus on the team's offensive performance. Franklin discussed his team's running game and the receivers with reporters. We'll dig into the details of those topics today.

    BWI Mailbag

Our recap of the Ohio State game continues with your questions in the BWI Mailbag. We'll sprinkle questions and comments from the message board and the live thread throughout the show, but we'll end the show focusing on your questions and thoughts in the BWI Mailbag. Do you have a comment or question? Join Blue White Illustrated right now and submit a question on the weekly mailbag thread. We discuss as many of the questions and we can each week, giving you the final word on the team's performance against Ohio State.

The Penn State Nittany Lions once again fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes in a top-five battle for the inside track to the Big Ten Championship game. Join the BWI Live Postgame show to discuss the team's efforts and what decided the game for the Nittany Lions. We'll spend 60 minutes discussing the loss and what happened. Also, we'll tell you what it means for the team's postseason chances.

Penn State gets out to a hot start

The Penn State opening drive went well, as they have done for much of the season. The team held the ball for half of the first quarter and drove deep into Ohio State territory. Starting quarterback Drew Allar, a question coming into the game, kept plays alive with his feet, but ultimately, the team settled for a field goal.

That was the story for Penn State's offense. When it did put together a drive, the effort stalled out for a field goal. Coming out of halftime, the Nittany Lions put together an adjustment drive that led to eight plays and 49 yards but ultimately ended in another Ryan Barker field goal.

Overall, the offense struggled to get players open against the physical Ohio State cornerbacks. The officials left the flag in their pockets on several occasions in the first half but the Nittany Lions also struggled to get open against zone. Penn State chose to leave players into chip against the aggressive Ohio State defensive line, giving Allar fewer options in the passing game.

Defense struggles to keep athletes under control

The Penn State defense played a gutsy game, keeping the explosive Ohio State offense in check for most of the game. The defensive secondary struggled to find receivers early in the game, giving up some big plays on play-action and long-developing routes. Ohio State also pivoted and ran quarterback Will Howard more than they have all season, putting Penn State's big, physical defensive ends into conflict.

However, Ohio State struggled to run between the tackles and Howard missed several wide-open touchdowns to his receivers on deep passes. Ultimately, the Penn State offense couldn't mount a counter-punch, even with a chunk of the scoring coming from the defense on a pick-six in the first quarter. The Penn State offense got the ball down to the one-yard line but failed to punch the ball in on fourth down. Ohio State then salted the game away with four minutes left.

Join the live show to share your thoughts about the game! We'll be taking your questions throughout the show!

Penn State wrestling has reached the end of October, which means just 17 days separate the Nittany Lions from the start of their 2024-2025 season. The defending NCAA and Big Ten champs open the dual meet portion of their latest slate by hosting Drexel on Nov. 17. Three weeks before that, the team released its updated roster for the year ahead. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel cover that and much more on today's Blue-White Illustrated Penn State wrestling show and podcast.

The pair start by reviewing the comings and goings on the roster. Who graduated or otherwise moved on? From there, they dive into a closer look at the newcomers. Penn State did not add any transfer portal additions like it did a year ago. But, it did bring 10 recruits from the Class of 2024 until campus.

From there, the pair dive into the confirmed roster changes. They then discuss the projected starting lineup and the best starting spot battle, which is a toss-up between 133 pounds, 157 pounds (if those are even a battle), and 197 pounds (which definitely is).

    Recruiting update with Sean Fitz

The biggest two-game stretch of the season for Penn State recruiting is here with the game against Ohio State and the upcoming White Out against Washington the following week. What's the latest with Penn State's final push for the Class of 2025? Fitz has the latest recruiting news from the past weekend.

    Between the Lines

Penn State head coach James Franklin spoke with the media on Monday, ahead of the team's matchup with fourth-ranked Ohio State. We discuss the team's situation heading into the game and what Franklin had to say about three key starters injured against Wisconsin. What is the status of Drew Allar, Dani Dennis-Sutton, and Anthony Dokoh? We discuss how Franklin addressed those topics this week.

Note: James Franklin whisperer Nate Bauer is our tenured Penn State football reporter who knows how to read between the lines of what Franklin is saying during his press conferences. He'll decode Franklin's comments for fans to let them know what the head man for the Nittany Lions actually means when he speaks.

Penn State Ohio State Preview in the BWI Mailbag

Of course, Penn State fans have little time to discuss the team's win over Wisconsin. All the questions this week focus on the upcoming game against Ohio State and what sort of chances the Nittany Lions may have to win. What are the keys to victory? Which side of the ball has to play better?

We're discussing your questions on the show throughout the hour. Join us to give your thoughts and ask questions of Fitz and Bauer.

    Halftime changes the momentum

The Penn State third-quarter defense took things to a new level on Saturday, powering the wounded team to a victory. The defense forced a three-and-out to start its work in the second half. Then, on third and 15 from his own end zone, Wisconsin quarterback Braeden Locke threw a pick-six interception to safety Jaylen Reed.

Reed's score was the catalyst that helped propel the team to the win. The defense put clamps on Wisconsin on all but one drive, where Locke threw a 33-yard deep shot after running an up-tempo play to get Penn State off-balance. But from there, the Nittany Lions snuffed out the Wisconsin offense, forcing multiple three-and-outs during the game.

Injuries change momentum, Penn State changes it back

The story of the game was nearly that Penn State's best players exited in the first half and the team lost an undefeated season with that fateful luck. The Nittany Lions struggled to find a rhythm on offense despite putting up 194 yards in the first half. Part of the issues started in the first quarter when starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh suffered another injury while in pass protection of quarterback Drew Allar. After trying to come back into the game for a drive, he was shut down for the rest of the game.

But the full Andy Kotelnicki run offense was unleashed in the second half with backup quarterback Beau Pribula. The third-year passer engineered an impressive offensive performance that powered Penn State to a victory. Pribula gained 28 yards rushing and 98 yards passing on the way to a 21-point outburst in the third and early fourth quarters.
