The Anthropo Scene Podcast

By: Kirstynn Joseph
  • Summary

  • A podcast exploring biology, ecology, and introduced and invasive species around the world. We are interested in super neat science about nature, and how humans interact with the nature, wildlife, and the rest of our environment.

We take a serious approach to research, and a less serious approach to the delivery, so we can all have a bit more fun along the way.

In loving memory of Nicholas McCarney.

  • Um, Could I Get Some Kelp?

Sea a star, make a wish!

Many of us know how awful heat waves can be (I know I for one have been very glad to have access to AC this summer)... now imagine being underwater where it is even harder, if not impossible, to cool yourself down.

Marine invertebrates face many challenges, and heat is definitely one of them, but could kelp forests potentially help provide some protection for communities of invertebrates (like sea stars for example!) during heat waves?

Join me chatting with MSc (/PhD candidate) Dominique Maucieri about her research into this complex question!

If you have ever heard whale song before you are likely to agree that it is beautiful, and can be quite powerful. So what if we took these incredible singers (along with dolphins too!) and added our own music to it - all for a greater cause?

In the search of helping people to practice mindfulness, improve mental health, and to raise awareness for the protection of our oceans, Joshua Sam Miller has created Sounds of The Ocean - An artistic exploration of natural sounds, music, and stunning visuals to inspire conservation action on a global scale. Join me chatting with Joshua all about this project and what it can mean for ocean conservation!

As we expand into natural areas we are undoubtedly expanding into the habitat of other animals. However, sometimes, instead of being pushed out these animals adapt to our landscape… becoming what we refer to as “urbanized.”

Today, we dive into co-existing with urbanized black bears in the Tahoe area with Toogee Sielsch!
