  • Spiritual Warfare E7 - Weapons of Our Warfare (Part 4)
    Nov 2 2024

On today's episode, Jana and Reata wrap their series on Spiritual Warfare and the topic, Weapons of our Warfare. Reata kicks off the conversation by listing peace as the next weapon at our disposal to fight against the dark forces. She speaks to how the peace of God can guard our hearts and minds, and exclaims that peace is not the absence of our problems or troubles, but it is the absolute trust that even in difficult times everything will be alright. Jana speaks to how the enemy tries to attack our minds in order to claim our hearts, and references The Purpose Driven Life stating that the best way to defeat bad thoughts is by thinking about something better. She elaborates on how resisting thoughts altogether never works, because resisting leads to fixating, which leads to the thought consuming your mind.

Next, they discuss how tithing is a spiritual weapon against forces of darkness. Reata speaks about how she tithed with her gifts and time rather than financially when she first became a believer. They discuss the idea of how tithing is beneficial in breaking the chains of greed and self-service. Jana also alludes to the importance of giving generously with your heart in efforts to glorify God's love, and how the tithe isn't meant to be a punishment or payment.

They conclude the conservation exploring fellowship and abiding as the final spiritual weapons of warfare. They converse about the significance of the church and fellowship with other believers, and address how the church is God's plan to save his people. Lastly, they both attest to how all of the weapons of warfare can be summarized as abiding in Christ. Reata closes out by relating and summarizing the four part series to Pauls' description of The Armor of God in Ephesians chapter 6.

  • Spiritual Warfare E6 - Weapons of Our Warfare (Part 3)
    Oct 26 2024

On today's episode, Jana and Reata continue their discussion on the weapons of our warfare. This is the third episode diving into the weapons we have at our disposal to fight against the enemy and dark forces. The four weapons of warfare they focus on in today's conversation include: communion, contentment, obedience and rest.

Reata starts off elaborating on communion and how it's more than just oyster crackers and grape juice. Communion encompasses the act of spending quality time with God; similar to spending quality time with a loved one. They also discuss how communion coupled with confession can pack a one-two punch of power against the enemy.

Next, Reata suggests contentment as another weapon in our arsenal and portrays the power of contentment through examining it's polar opposite, comparison. Jana shares Sophie's story (a real life example of how comparison brought on by social media nearly ended a teenage girl's life) and the serious threats/issues that can arise through comparing ourselves to others. Additionally, they consider the fine line between pride, contentment and jealousy.

Lastly, they round out the episode discussing obedience and rest. Reata highlights the importance and generational impacts of Godly obedience through the examples of Abraham and Jesus. They speak on the fact that obedience requires faith. Moreover, obedience is an act of faith. They conclude emphasizing the importance of rest.

    Verses Mentioned:
    James 5:16
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

    Hebrews 13:5-6
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

    Exodus 14:14
14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

    Episode Quotes:
"God can do far more with our surrender than you can with your control." -unknown

"If you're content, then the enemy can't push your buttons."

"It's hard to be content without having a firm foundation of faith."

"You completely disarm the enemy when you're content."

  • Spiritual Warfare E5 - Weapons of Our Warfare (part 2)
    Oct 19 2024

On today's episode, Jana and Reata continue their discussion on weapons of our warfare. They kick off the conversation with prayer as a spiritual weapon to fight against the forces of darkness. Reata shares how she was put in situations to pray aloud and how she still struggles with this today. She a likens prayer to starting a conversation with a friend. You do not know where the conversation will go or the topics that will arise, but you start talking and let the conversation flow where it may. Jana discloses how inadequacies with prayer where a hinderance in starting the podcast, because it made her feel like a hypocrite. This leads into a discussion about how the enemy plays on our insecurities to prevent us from being all God created us to be.

The next spiritual weapon they touch on is praise and worship. They explain how praise and worship is for God's glory and that it is not intended to be self fulfilling. Jana raises the topic about praising God when faced with difficult situations and how leaning into our faith we can be reassured that God will use our pain/struggles for His good.

Lastly, they speak about the power of fasting. Reata elaborates on how fasting is ultimately giving up the thing you really like or something that takes you away from God. She explains how there is great power in redirecting the time typically spent on what you are fasting and dedicating that time and energy into God will fill a greater need or purpose.

    Quotes:
"God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called."

"The enemy makes us feel insecure, he makes us feel worthless, he makes us feel unloved, he reminds us of everything we've ever failed at... That's not God."
